4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 ChillCoat (1030) - Concord, California, USA - FEB 18, 2005
UPDATED: OCT 12, 2007 On Tap@ Barclay’s on College. Poured almost pitch black with just a bit of a tan head that faded quickly with no lacing. Malt aroma with hints of chocolate and raspberries. The flavor is quite refreshing and light on the palate. Flavors of fruits, berries, nuts and chocolate. There is a somewhat smokey quality to it as well. Finishes off with a crisp hoppyness. Just the beer for a warm spring day!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Chuckaduck (266) - California, USA - JAN 21, 2012
Pours deep brown-black with a fluffy white head. Aroma is vanilla, coffee, chocolate, banana. Taste is vanilla, brown sugar, spicy, just a touch sour citrus, coffee finish. Mouth feel is light but chewy. Lightly carbonated works well.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 LtDan (1484) - Los Angeles County, California, USA - FEB 4, 2011
On tap at Devil’s Canyon
Appearance: Pours a dark red with a tight creamy white head.
Aroma: Big beautiful vinous fruit and burnt sugar. Not much hops in the nose.
Taste: Vinous fruit, banana, burnt caramel, spicy hops.
Mouthfeel: Full mouthfeel, the rich malt coats and lingers. Modest spicy carbonation.
Overall: One of the best Scotch ales I’ve tried. The bar has been set for me by Alesmith Wee Heavy, and I believe Full Boar is within reach of that bar. It’s not very alcoholic or warm, but you are well aware you are in possession of a big beer.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 IrishBoy (3335) - Bakersfield, California, USA - AUG 7, 2011
Bomber from my friend Tim at the Bistro IPA Fest, Nose is sweetness and caramel, with hints of smoke and chocolate. Clear cherry brown with a small tan head. Flavor is lightly smoky and lightly sweet, with caramel and bitter chocolate. Pretty good
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 popery (1014) - San Francisco, California, USA - SEP 1, 2011
This is a very good scotch ale. I’m trying not to be too swayed by the relatively low price ($4-5/bomber), but it certainly doesn’t hurt. The beer is a deep, ruby-highlighted brown with a small, fizzy beige head. The aroma is mostly nutty caramel and malted molasses. It has an almost floral honey tone. This is all classic and good scotch ale territory. It’s big and full with a touch of sweet wood smoke. No off-notes, no nonsense. This beer is a mouthful of caramel malt. It tastes fresh and earthy. The sweetness never overwhelms even without any apparent hoppiness. There’s just a touch of lightly bitter wood at the close. Smooth, full, creamy, rich. Drinks above its weight class.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Blairgus (1189) - California, USA - NOV 20, 2011
UPDATED: NOV 29, 2011 20 nov 2011, tap. Really dark ruby. Nose is def strong coffee grounds. Def not what I think of with a scotch ale. Med body and fizzy. Soft sugary chocolate ovaltine, slightly meaty, lots of coffee. Actually nice, but I’d never call this a Scottish ale. More of a slightly sweet, meaty, coffee stout.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 bhensonb (7581) - Woodland, California, USA - NOV 29, 2011
Bomber from The Davis Beer Shoppe in Davis, CA. Pours really dark brown with a creamy/bubbly 3 finger tan head. Aroma seems like a strong mix of toffee and chocolate. Med body. Mild carb. Flavor is somewhat Horlicks - chocolate and malt. Not on the sweet side, but not exactly dry. It has some bitterness - low key. Finally finding a bit of hop in the nose. Might be some smoke, but hard to be sure.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 bb (4888) - Alamo, California, USA - FEB 18, 2005
Draft. Dark brown with a small brown head. Malty aroma with some roastiness to it. Thick full roasted malt flavor with a slightly fruity side. Full bodied with a slight hop finish.
