3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Can with James and Dad. Clear dark brown with a creamy beige head. The aroma is caramel, nutty, biscuity, peat, cocoa, a little fruity but not the fruitiest of scotch ales. The aroma is reminiscent of my sleeping bag, in which a can of this (which was destined for my first tasting) imploded while hiking the Overland Track. Anyway, the flavour has plenty of malty notes, caramel and toffee, it is fairly sweet but actually has a good balance.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Poured from a tall can into a pint glass to drink. The beer had a deep brown-copper color with a dark red hue and an average-sized foamy-creamy dark white head that had shorter retention, but good lacing and cling. Its aroma had a roasty caramel, chocolate and toffee malt character, with some floral, earthy, and grainy hops blended with it. The taste was a mostly sweet blend of toffee and chocolate, along with a bit of caramel, and a lighter grainy bitterness present too. A fairly wet and smooth, watery beer with a good, thickish mouthfeel and average carbonation with a bubbly finish.

Can- distinct. Smokey aroma and flavor for a scotch ale. Didn’t know peat moss could taste good. Best scotch ale. in a can- figure has little competition!

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Rating #921 -January 17, 2014 - 473ml Can from Coop. Light brown amber pour with a bubbly tan foam with little retention. Aroma is roasted malts, toffee, vanilla, oak, honey. Taste is quite sweet at first, prolonged oaky vanilla, light tobacco, toffee sweetness and the presence of oak in the body. I enjoyed this beer more as it started to warm. Very nice medium-full body, mild alcohol note on the palate which is typical for the style, and lots of rich sweetness.
