Bottle sample @ 2nd RBBSG, August 11th 2012. Courtesy of Travlr.

Sampled at RBBSG, thanks to Trvlr. Very dark brown color with a very nice deep dark red glare coming through, small beige to light brown head. Smell malts, slightly roasty, slightly coffee. Taste malts, roasted malts, sone coffee and lightly alcohol. Medium body, low to medium carbo.

This is a great craft brew. Sampled it after a tour of the brewery which they only charge for because they had all the homeless in town taking a free tour for the samples. The beer covers a typical porter niche and has a predictable palate. It is a really nice blend but nothing too unique.

The first time we tried this beer, it was unfiltered at a beer festival. I thought the unfiltered version tasted like coffee, which I quite liked. When we picked up a bottled version at a local convenience store, I thought it tasted strange and bitter. I like it unfiltered but didn’t like it filtered.

Poured bottle into goblet. Very, dark, opaque. Small head on pour. Smell: Powerful. Molasses. Toffee. Taste: Molasses under malt. Slight sweet at first, roasted... coffee? Wonderful Palate: Great. Smooth. Excellent. Could drink this all night long. Plenty of flavor and perfect balance. I need to find this on tap... probably even better that way.
