SuzyGreenberg (768), Seattle, Washington, USA May 16, 2008 draft @ brewery - clear brown with thick, foamy off-white head; lots of lacing; light bodied and very mild aromas; musky and not very sweet; grainy finish and overall on the bland side
BillKismet (1338), Seattle, Washington, USA Mar 31, 2008 Chestnut brown with okay head. Well-rounded and flavorful brown with easy malt aroma and taste, some toasted nuttiness and medium to full-bodied. riversideAK (1427), Shoreline, Washington, USA Mar 24, 2008 Brown cola color with a moderate malt aroma. Not sweet, perhaps a bit nutty. Flavor of nutty malt and maybe a touch of chocolate, but it seemed to be off a bit. I would like to try this one at the source instead of a dive bar in Ballard. Might have been a line cleaning problem that gave it a dishwater, soapy flavor underneath the nutty goodness. tongatim (10), Bellingham, Washington, USA Feb 14, 2008 Amber, well-balanced, rather complex Brown Ale on tap at Archer’s Ale House in Bellingham, served very nicely at cellar temperature. Dry, nutty flavors and finish suggest Northern English Brown style not too far removed from Samuel Smith’s Brown Ale. I think this is a hard style to make interesting, and found Diamond Knot’s rendition very satisfying. Make sure you try it cool, not cold. after4ever (1628), Brier, Washington, USA Nov 7, 2007 Draft at the Diamond Knot brewhouse. Nice dark caramel brown with golden brown highlights. Clear light, solid grayish head; very little lace. Neutral nose--maybe a little bit of malt husk in there somewhere. Light side of medium body. Light carb. Caramel and nutty husk on the mid-palate. Very faint molasses finish. This used to suffer from soapiness, and that has been remedied. But this isn’t one of their more interesting efforts. They seem especially conscious of producing a range of training wheels beers at DK (the menu as much as says so), and this seems to be in the late-freshman-year class series.
