Our flagship beer. Columbus hops impart flavors of grapefruit and a hint of cedar..

A real, full-on IPA. Very hoppy, and a very thick head. Really really malty as well. A little less carbonated as usual, which is probably why the head seemed thick. Had the 5X IPA on tap at The Harbour Public House on Bainbridge Island (across the ferry from Seattle).

12 ounce can to wine glass Appearance: Orange-light amber color Smell: Nice aroma of hops Taste: Nice initial taste, but lacks follow through Mouth feel: slightly creamy. bitter after taste Overall: Good beer, average, but not something to look forward to, there are far better IPAs in the Seattle area

Cask at CaskDays. Pours clear orange with lots of foamy head and no lacing. Nose is grassy. Taste is grassy with dank, some grapefruit. Taste medium bitter light sweet. Medium body with low carbonation.

12oz can poured into keg shaped glass. Canned on 7/22, consumed on 8/29. Pour is dark honey, clear. Aroma is surprisingly not as hoppy as I would have predicted and not as hoppy as the previous few IPAs. The aroma has a strong malt character with hops (as opposed to the other way around). Some liquid malt and some woodsy malts with nondescript mildly bitter hops. Flavor lowers the malt presence and amps the hop presence. Bitterness is mild-moderate, lightly cookie crust malts, and again sharp and clean hops but not a particular description I can give (maybe grapefruit, not really cedar). Lingering light hop bitterness.

Bottle from Safeway-Ephrata. Based on the score was expecting to be overwhelmed, but thatís not the case. Fairly mild brew (sampled after Iron Horse Gary, to be fair), nothing much stands out. Some caramel malts, but not much in the way of hop presence. Solid beer, but weak IPA.

Aroma: pine, citrus fruits, grapefruit in particular, some caramel, grass. Appearance: slightly hazy gold, small, creamy, white head. Taste: light sweet. Palate: caramel again, citrus, pine, turns bitter in the finish. Overall: a nice, yet light IPA, good, bitters in the palate. Pint at Taphouse Grill Downtown, Seattle, WA.

On tap. Hazy copper pour. White head. Good lacing. Aroma of caramel malts and citra hops. Taste is the same with grapefruit bitter finish. Pretty well balanced.

Ice cold pour from bomber hits the sweet spot on this sizzling sunny day. Not the most adventurous IPA -- brisk, bitter, medium hoppy, nothing overly citrus -- but good middle of the road drinker.

Draft pour. Pours a fizzy copper color with a lasting head. Really wet bitter hop aroma. I would say I have had this beer more often then any other beer, and there is a simple reason. Itís often available, and itís really good. Sweet and bitter flavors throughout with a hoppy finish. Enjoyed this one for years. Good stuff.

"Hmmm, not getting any cedar in here. Pine and citrus, a little malt heavy in the nose and flavor, but pleasant enough. Probably not one Iíll rush to get back to, though."

nose: not getting a whole lot apart from a wet grassiness, and an almost vanilla syrup scent. palate: thatís more like it. very spicy [white pepper and bitter greens] at first, with good sweet grapefruit and apple in the middle. thick and resiny. finish mirrors attack completely and hangs around forever. sort of ístandard nw ipaí for me. one-note but very well crafted
