3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On draught at the brewpub in Mukilteo, Washington. Pours an opaque dark brown brew with a creamy off-white head that quickly dissipates to a fine film and thin off-white ring. Aroma of roasted dark malts, some chocolate, ice tea, and a touch of coffee. Taste is medium bodied, very light carbonated with a more toasted dark malt, some floral hops, chocolate and some earthy herbs. Finish has a mild bitterness with a semi-dry toasted dark malt aftertaste.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Gorwler courtesy of Ibrew2or3. The aroma is a nice blend of coffee, chocolate, tobacco tea and ample roast notes. A little different smelling, but intriguing. The body is dark brown to black and holds a diminishing mocha head. The fore is fairly roast bitter with coffee and chocolate notes and again some tobacco. There is a mineral water like note toward the finish that is off putting. Also has some mild ash and smokiness in the finish. Despite a few off flavor points I find myself rather enjoying it.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Growler from brewpub. Pours deep deep dark amber with nice mocha head and sheet lacing. The aroma has an initial burst of burnt malts. Quickly a mild malt sweetness coupled with chocolate malts intervenes for a moment before an earthy note mixes with the burnt malts to create a cigar ash sensation. Interesting. The taste begins like the aroma with solid burnt malts, charred malts and mild chocolate malts. About midway I get a mild vague fruitiness mixed with a mineral sense that seems a bit out of place. It ends with a load of burnt malts that run deep into the after taste.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Growler courtesy of Ibrew2or3. Thanks a ton, Dave. Dark brown pour with very nice looking red highlights. Small brown head that doesnít stay around for too long, but leaves some nice lacing. Nose of burnt malts, dark fruits, roasted coffee beans, bitter dark chocolate, tobacco leaves and ash. Flavor is very similar, heavy on the roast and also a very odd metallic twang at the end of the swallow. Medium bodied, perfect for the style. Finish is a little thin at the end, but has some nice roast components. Pretty lengthy as well. Overall the metallic bite really takes away from the beer overall, but itís still a pretty solid Porter.

UPDATED: MAR 24, 2009 fantastically solid porter. thick and rich in the glass with an oily gelled viscosity and a creamy head that left great lacing. Simple aroma of medium roast. Great body, great roast character, some coffee, some chocolate, true to style, great all around.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Sampled on draught at the brewpub in Mukilteo, WA. Pours to an opaque, black color, with a thin, tan head, and a soft carbonation. The nose on this beer is excellent, with lots of aromas of dark malts, coffee, and piney hops. The palate is soft, with good dark chocolate, coffee, and light roast flavors. This beer finishes with more good coffee and roasty flavors, then ends with a piney hop bite that lingers. An excellent porter with a punch of PNW hop character. Makes for an excellent session brew, a natural with shell fish or salmon, or a number of the pub grub dishes on Diamond Knotís excellent menu.
