Bomber pours clear deep gold with three inch near rocky off white head, uh oh. The aroma is sort of dusty with a bit of yeast as well as spicy hops and vague bitterness, soapy notes and almost a spicy wood sensation. The taste is similar with bitterness and sharp spiciness and also soapy notes mixing with acidity. It seems the condition of this bottle isn’t pristine. I hate the way these big box bottle shops store all the IPA and Pales at room temperature and bathed in UV lighting (purchased at Total Wine in Tempe). Need to re-rate a fresh bottle from a better bottle shop.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 raphael (665) - Portland, Oregon, USA - AUG 1, 2011
Strong pale malt aroma, dark malt I don’t expect to smell, and fresh lumber, hazy orange amber body with smallish off-white head. A second of peach flavor then a big waveof grapefruit rind, with some caramel coming back to not quite balance, a murky beer,, pieces that don’t quite fit together.

Sampled on tap at SIB, pours hazy caramel with a white head. Aroma of herbals hops, marijuana and citrus. Flavour is quite spicy (cinnamon, nutmeg), a little sweet chocolate (?!), herbal hops and citrus. Well-rounded but lacking depth / uniqueness.

So good we brought a growler home. The port mixed with the oak comes through nicely. Nice fullish body. Good stuff.

tap in Seattle back in Aug 07-maybe i had a different beer, but i have it written down as Diamond Knot XXX IPA. Deep amber hue with a soapy off-white head with good lacing! sweet malt flavors up front with some fruity notes-maybe thats the wine barrel aging? slight alcohol with alot of grapefruit late in the flavors. Complex and nice! im impressed.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 luttonm (963) - Belgrade, SERBIA - DEC 29, 2009
Oaked version at Brouwer’s Big Wood 2009. Deep oaky and smooth. A bit sour on nose, owing to the base beer I’d guess. Great local DIPA that gets some boost from the wood, but still average.
4.2 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20 kangaroo (67) - Everett, Washington, USA - DEC 7, 2009
GI-normous white head. Red body throws the whole IPA thing into question. But the flavors are pure IPA. Pine and citrus hops with a crisp finish. A familiar blend of hops flavors Diamond knot uses in their Industrial IPA is most welcome. The red malt is adding interesting caramel hops and so must not only be forgiven, but embraced and enjoyed. A northwest Pale Ale that went to the beach and got a caramel tan. The oaked flavor is quite enjoyable.
