unclemattie (4116) - Georgia, USA - FEB 25, 2012
22oz bottle. Hazy, light brown color, big bubbles/fast moving carbonation. Light tan head. Aroma of yuck, infection. There is some cereal in the nose, but mostly sour apple. Some tart flavor, distant bread. Definite infection. Finishes with a toasted malt essence, harsh earthy bitter tannin-like character. Too bad, I was really craving a full flavored, toasted Lager tonight. (3256)

Brigadier (2875) - Clevelandish, Ohio, USA - FEB 13, 2012
22 ounce bottle
This was a discount offering from a trip to Washington, DC. Now I know why - it is an average and unremarkable vienna lager. Maybe it is better fresh but the taste profile here was lackluster. Only the low price tag keeps it from dropping a few more points.

Aroma / Appearance - Cloudy liquid the color of watery maple syrup poured from the bottle and was soon embraced by a thick white head. The nose is warmed over maple syrup on wheat pancakes, sweet icing on a plain cupcake, and not much more. Thin and confusing this is mild as if waiting for permission to show its full colors.

Flavor / Palate - Semi-sweet chocolate chips, caramel and a dry yeasty finish are the main aspects of a relatively dull profile. The finish is a bit nutty and makes me wonder if this lost a bit of its edge in traveling from coast to coast. For that reason I wouldn’t mind trying another Diamond Knot beer - this time on the West Coast near the source.

hayduke (3317) - Eureka, California, USA - JAN 29, 2012
Pours hazy amber with a light tan head and light lacing. Nose is caramel malts and dome citrus. Medium body. The flavor is lightly roasted caramel malts but there is a hop bitterness hat is not really pleasant, and some sourness that dominated the finish. Not a very enjoyable beer.

Strykzone (4781) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - JAN 28, 2012
Bomber from Hayduke. We had a bottle together via facebook chat. This poured cloudy tea colored and had a nice off white fluffy head. Some light fruit and malt in the nose. The flavor is much too sour as if it were over hopped. That sourness is pervasive. Some light fruit, malt, and spices are tasted but the sourness cannot become overcome.

obguthr (3636) - Staunton, Virginia, USA - JAN 6, 2012
Honey and hay nose, with earthy potting soil accents. Cloudy orange amber, medium yellow head. Pronounced dirt flavor within a tart malt base. Walnut finish. Pale and tart for the style, but not boring at all.

osu97gp (646) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - DEC 3, 2011
Pours a hazy orange with a small off-white head. Aroma is very faint and of malts. Flavor is sweet malts, bread, and light fruit. A strange tart/sour finish.

CaptainCougar (7129) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - NOV 28, 2011
22oz bottle: Pours a clear orange bronze with a stringy-lacing off-white head. Has a lightly sweet grainy malty nose with a hint tart fruits and noble hops. Starts with average fullness and light malty sweetness with a good balance of bittering hops before a drier finish. Might have a slight infection going on, but it’s showing up more in the nose than the body.

Elwood (3009) - Leesburg, Virginia, USA - NOV 15, 2011
Serving: 22 oz. bottle from Total Wine Sterling. It pours a cloudy amber color with a small but persistent head of off white foam. The nose has light fruit and malt notes. The flavor has some cracker, more fruit than it should, and a faint hint of both caramel and metallic notes. A hint of sweetness up front, a faint bitterness in the back, evening out in the end for a medium finish. Light to medium body, you could certainly have a few of these. Not entirely bad, but it seems to be wandering aimlessly.

bhensonb (10688) - Woodland, California, USA - NOV 13, 2011
Bomber from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours hazy ripe peach with a creamy near beige head. Starts a little sharp citrus quickly followed by mild roast caramel. About med body. Flavor is light caramel with some citrusy bitter. A light beer, but a good one.

Beerlando (3342) - Orlando, Florida, USA - NOV 13, 2011
Fresh bomber. Dark, hazy, slightly ruddy brownish-amber body. Small, quickly fading blanket of cream colored foam for a head. Skinny, drippy arches and flares of lace. The nose is malty, showing nicely caramelized sugars and baking bread dough. I get a hint of crusty cookie, and there’s a slightly odd alkaline note. It’s very slightly tinny/metallic, but not annoyingly so. Hops are floral and herbaceous, suggesting of sage and maybe some drying grass. Flavors largely follow suit, mostly malty, but sufficiently hopped with unique green herbal notes. There’s a mildly acidic tang that tends to cut through the doughy, bready maltiness. The palate is moderate in stature and well carbonated, drinking fairly easy, and finishing with crop, cleaning action. Decent little beer here, but nothing special.
