COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Diamond Knot Brewery has been working with Seattle metal legend Michael "Whip" Wilton of Queensryche for quite some time to perfect the recipe for the new Whip Ale. And the time has come to "release the beast." Diamond Knot will tap the first keg of Whip Ale on May 12 at 6:00 p.m. at its 621 Front Street Alehouse. Whip Ale is an American Pale Ale bittered with Nugget, Simcoe and Cascade hops. Pale, Caramel and Vienna malts provide a balance to the bright, citrusy hop flavors. American Ale Yeast generates a clean, crisp finish.

Bottle. The pour was a hazy medium golden orange with a large (2-3 finger) white frothy head that lasted throughout, reducing finally to a large cap which produced some rally good streaks of lacing. The aroma was mild of a bread malt, spruce and citrus hops and an earthy doughy yeast with notes of caramel and citrus (grapefruit). The taste was light and satisfyingly bitter with a malty caramel sweetness early on and then gradually became a tad hoppier with a good bitter citrus finish. The flavor hung on for a good long while after the swallow with a pronounced bitter citrusy taste and a hint of spice left lying on the taste buds. Mouthfeel was just a tad under medium in body with a nice creamy dry texture and a prickly carbonation. Overall a fantastic brew with superb balance of flavor, giving this beer an awesome drinkability...

Murky orange/yellow with a white head. Nothing really distinguishing in the aroma or taste other than a yeastiness and some mild earthy bitterness. Some sweet honey maltiness, but thatís about it. Okay, Iíve had this bottle for awhile so it might be past itís prime. Iíll have to give it another go if I can find it again.

On tap at the World Craft Tasting 2013. A cloudy orange-gold color with a fairly average fruity aroma but a touch too grainy. A nice full body with a fruity & somewhat grainy flavor. An average beer.

$1.99 bottle from Total Wine. Pours gold with a big, fluffy white head. Aroma is slightly citrusy but very bready for a pale ale. And this carries over to the taste. A slight bit of citrus but very malty, white bready. Not great...but a cheap bomber.
