bgburdman9 (708), Columbus, Ohio, USA Dec 19, 2007 Aroma was a little weird overall. malty and hoppy but a little weird in the flavor too. Didnt really like this one all that much.

Dark black brown thick pour with an almost white head. Smell is mild and sweet and not grainy or medicinal nor does alcohol overwhelm the nose. Flavor is mildy sweet as well and has this little touch of a roasted bitter flavor. Mouthfeel is decent. Overall, not bad at all. lb4lb (1281), Austin, Texas, USA Jun 22, 2008 Pours a dark maroon with a medium lived creamy beige head. Smell is bright, simple malt, some dark fruitiness and a nutty quality as well. Taste is mild, smooth malt, fruitiness and nuttiness and dark, yet not roasty at all. Unique, smooth and very pleasant. Slightly creamy and moderately flavorful, without being overpowering at all, and the ABV is hidden well and drinkability is very high. Surprisingly good. Angeloregon (1549), Portland, Oregon, USA Jun 3, 2008 From a 12-ounce bottle--Poured a dark amber body with a thin whitish head. Aroma of bold malts, toffee, caramel and alcohol. Piny hop flavor with gripping malts and a finish of grassy, stinging flavor. Very smooth and quite enjoyable. pepsican (645), the beer wastelands of, Iowa, USA Apr 29, 2008 ark amber with a small off white head. Aroma is strong malts and toffee. Flavor is heavy caramel with a bit of hops to back it up. Some toffee and grapes as well. Finishes a tad syrupy, just how I like em. shigadeyo (1342), Southwest Ohio Area, Ohio, USA Apr 16, 2008 4/16/2008: Dick’s Barley Wine Ale has a rich, malty caramel/toffee aroma. There are also some resinous hoppiness lingering in the aroma. The beer has a transparent pecan color and a thin, beige, crackle-top veil. The flavor is hoppy and has more of a bite than I expected as a hefty dose of grassy and pine hops jump out right up front and builds through the finish. There really isn’t too much malitness underneath to balance this beer; it is just outright bitter! That’s not all bad, I suppose, but definitely not what I was looking for tonight. All I really get besides the bitterness is some toasted bread and a hint of toffee. It finished floral if not a bit soapy... Regardless, the alcohol is completely hidden - or at least masked - by the flavor and bitterness. This medium-bodied barleywine is very smooth and has a soft, subtle texture.
12 fluid ounce bottle (9.9% Alcohol by Volume) from bitbucket. Thanks Bob! Rating #110 for this beer...
