highibus (421), Mill Creek, Washington, USA Sep 27, 2009 Black as it should be with nice creamy tab head. Light roasted aroma. Flavor is nice notes of deep roasted malt chocolate and a bit of bitter biscuit. Very similar to deschuetes obsidian stout. Best I have had from dicks. Capa (952), Yokosuka, Japan Jul 25, 2009 Very dark and thick. Very nice roasted malt aroma. Some coffee, light chocolate, as well. Flavor is full of bittersweet chocolate, roasted malts, and some coffee. Body is a bit more carbonated than I would prefer in this type of stout, but still nice. Overall a very nice stout. scrizzz (1250), kirkland, Washington, USA Jun 19, 2009 Nice roasted malt aroma with a creamy sweetness. Jet black, sticky head, full lacing. Full creamy body, strong roasted black malt (but not burnt), some coffee notes and very satisfying. Great sweet stout, amazed that there’s no lactose. jimmbo123 (37), Washington, USA Jun 16, 2009 I used to buy this by the case directly from the brewery (cheaper that way). This is my favorite beer from Dick’s. Quality varies from 2.5 to 4.5 (out of 5), but it is most often in the upper range (3.5 to 4.5).
Bitter Chocolate flavor usually predominates, otherwise smooth and very drinkable for a stout. Often identical in taste to Samuel Smith’s Tadcaster Porter.
I no longer drive to the brewery since they stopped making their Champagne Cola (like a Vanilla Coke only better), which tied as one of my favorite sodas of all time. cmonster (73), Portland, Oregon, USA May 1, 2009 12 oz bottle poured into a pint. Black in color with a short, light brown head. Aroma of dark chocolate powder. Medium-heavy body. Average carbonation. Creamy mouthfeel and finish. Not too bitter or complex, but tasty. SledgeJr (2957), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Mar 19, 2009 On tap at the brewpub. Black with a dark beige head. no aroma. Has a nice smoked and roasted flavor. Very quick finish. Great lacing in the glass. This is a good stout. daknole (2802), Plantation, Florida, USA Mar 17, 2009 Bottle from brewdad, thanks for the extra! Porus a dark brown with a small/medium tan head. Aroma has nice roasted notes with chocolate, and some notes of heavy whipping cream. Flavor has some sweetness, chocolate, roasted malt and a slight sweet coffee finish. Good beer. LinusStick (1830), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 9, 2009 A nice sweet stout via trade with Chewy. Thanks man. Nice sweet milky aroma with a hint of coffee. Pour was a beautiful deep dark brown with a fizzy bubbly one finger tan head. Taste was actually very bitter but good. Roasty dark coffee and chocolate malt with a mouth drying bitter aftertaste. Very strong and fizzy carbonation. Nice beer.
