The taste is nice and more subtle than most stouts but the cream can be tasted underneath the coffee and chocolate taste. Palate is unimpressive but alright doesn’t last long. A decent beer. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 20, 2005 This beer pours a dark brown color with no head but strangely enough it developed a nice lacing after a few minutes and as it warmed. The aroma is malty, chocolatey, mildly lactic but definitely not overbearing and surpsingly smokey! Wood, licorice, cherries and roasted barley make up the remainder of the aroma. The flavor is full bodied, malty and sweet throughout. Caramel, smokey wood, licorice, thick cherries, chocolate, lactic milkiness and a dry sweet finish with some chocolate grains. Long lasting and developing flavor, some oatmeal and raisin sweetness as well....so many different flavors going on here, a very nice dessert beer. Mild carbonation, silky mouthfeel. The aroma was subtle coffee and chocolate and sweet heavy cream. Medium body with slight carbonation and a creamy texture. The flavor was coffee/cream/chocolate. Put this on a par with Great Lakes Blackout Stout. Darkover (1319), Columbus, Ohio, USA

Aroma of semi-sweet cocoa, and some roasty coffee. Very smooth, slightly sweet chocolatey flavors. Well balanced bitter roastiness with some coffee notes. Very solid stout. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 29, 2004 Bottle Pours a deep black with a decent fluffy tan head. Settleling rather quickly but leaving nice fine lacing. Faint dark roast malt, purple grapes and prunes are here but they don’t jump out at you. Taste is a nice mellow malty smokey flavor. Some coffee and charcoal too. Subtle is the word here. Maybe even plain for a stout. Feel is a medium body and a smooth finish. Carbonation is a bit soft but I think apropriate for the style. argo0 (7047), Washington DC, USA
