COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black and incredibly creamy with flavors of coffee and dark chocolate. A large portion of highly roasted black unmalted barley gives this beer it's opaque black color and deep flavors. Additionally a large percentage of unmalted flaked barley in the malt beer gives this beer it's unmatched creaminess. We add just enough hops for a little complexity. The result is a true stout to satisfy any connoisseur of the style, yet so drinkable that it pleases even lighter beer drinkers

Opaque dark mahogany. Thin tan edge head. Zero carbonation except the slight bubbles forming near the head. Aroma of roasted coffee, barley and burnt caramel. Thin and watery body with mildy burnt and coffeed malt flavors. Light underpinnings of prune juiciness. Black malt twang. Finishes richly malty and lightly sweet but with a weak body. This brew obviously doesn’t hold carbonation well as the first sample, two days ago, had plenty of carbonation and this one looks and tastes like cold black coffee. What a shame because the flavors beneath the lifeless body are promising.

I have not liked to many stouts, for some reason I just prefer porters. But along comes this one and suddenly I wish I could get more. It had a dryness I found quite pleasing. If I had been tasting blind I would have called this a porter.

Sweet coffee and cocoa with roasted malty nose. Headless and oily. Sweet and creamy with the hops showing up in the middle somewhere. Very enjoyable and I’ll keep an eye out for more from this brewer.

Surprisingly creamy. Full flavor. The best cream stout I’ve had.

Gusler (2654) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - OCT 14, 2000
UPDATED: NOV 30, 2003 The beer pours an onyx color with a planetary sized head that is somewhat creamy in consistency and a nice light chocolate color, the lace formed is a thick and sticky sheet that envelops the glass. The aroma of toasted grain, vanilla, and sweet malt hit s your nostrils first, light coffee and fresh chopped black walnut tones also appear to be present, with the star sweet, nice malt presence and the top middling in its feel to the palate. Finish has a crisp acidity, the hops delicate and pleasing in their spiciness, sweet and somewhat chocolate bitter aftertastes pouts the cap on this drinkable if middle of the road stout, well worth a sample for the “Stout Novice”!
