4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 ElGaucho (1862) - Minnetonka, Minnesota, USA - DEC 26, 2003
I really liked this beer. Around mid-bottle, I detected a bitter sweetness not generally found in stouts. It has a somewhat chalky, milk chocolate aroma. Fully opaque body with a an average-sized brown head and excellent lacing. Chocolate is the prevailing flavor, but it is done tastefully and well. As mentioned above, it has a bitter sweetness that sets it apart from the average stout. Really good. Thanks Slikwily!

Surprisingly creamy. Full flavor. The best cream stout I’ve had.

I have not liked to many stouts, for some reason I just prefer porters. But along comes this one and suddenly I wish I could get more. It had a dryness I found quite pleasing. If I had been tasting blind I would have called this a porter.

4.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 Sam10 (37) - Olympia, Washington, USA - JUN 27, 2006
I was suprised by the flavor of this beer. I was expecting a heavy strong flavor. But this beer was smooth with a slite coffee taste with a chocolate after taste. The cream takes the edge off this very good beer.

It was my girlfriend with the dirty mind who laughed at the idea of this beer being "Dick’s Cream". As a heterosexual male, it’s not often I yearn for some "Dick’s Cream", but for this Stout I’ll make an exception. And don’t get me started on describing the "head"...

This is a rich, smooth, chocolatey stout. Though savory and robust not as filling as many stouts are. It doesn’t appear to be in wirde destribution so when you see it stock up. I know I will.

Sweet coffee and cocoa with roasted malty nose. Headless and oily. Sweet and creamy with the hops showing up in the middle somewhere. Very enjoyable and I’ll keep an eye out for more from this brewer.

This beer pours a dark brown color with no head but strangely enough it developed a nice lacing after a few minutes and as it warmed. The aroma is malty, chocolatey, mildly lactic but definitely not overbearing and surpsingly smokey! Wood, licorice, cherries and roasted barley make up the remainder of the aroma. The flavor is full bodied, malty and sweet throughout. Caramel, smokey wood, licorice, thick cherries, chocolate, lactic milkiness and a dry sweet finish with some chocolate grains. Long lasting and developing flavor, some oatmeal and raisin sweetness as well....so many different flavors going on here, a very nice dessert beer. Mild carbonation, silky mouthfeel.
