The malt aroma has notes of roast, chocolate, and a hint of smoke. The flavor is malty, mildly sweet, mild citrus hop, and mild cola notes. Carbonic bite. Light-medium body with a mild bitter dry finish. jake65 (1760), Williston, North Dakota, USA

| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jan 26, 2007 First aroma was of brown/maple sugar. There was a long lasting velvetty head after being poured. I tasted the brown sugar, some nutty flavor, and some slight cofee/mocha. The flavor was good, but there was not much going on in the palate as I usually expect a little more body from a brown ale. cyanescens (159), Seattle, Washington, USA

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 23, 2006 On tap at Hop Vine Pub, Seattle. Ruby colour with thin beige head. Not sure what to make of this. Obviously strong in alcohol I thought at the time, although not crude. An old ale perhaps with sour malt aroma. Juicy. Some hop on end, bit of coffee and damson. Bit syrupy but I got the ABV of this so wrong, I thought it was around 9% DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 3, 2006 Thanks to KenB for this. Pours hazy deep brown with 1-finger khaki head. Aroma of heavy caramel malt, brown sugar, vinous fruit, hops, and bourbon. The taste is malty, with caramel, brown sugar, nuts, and a vinous fruit mid-palate that gains a bourbony finish. Unique and quaffable, with a great label.
