I've had three other Dick's and loved them so I wanted to give the other three I can find a try. This reminds me of a cross between a Pale Ale and a Porter. I'm not sure it is a Brown as it's not sweet enough (I usually don't like Browns).
Pours a dark brown with a rather large white head that lasts a long time and leaves some lacing.
Smell is mainly of alcohol, but has some roasted malt scent mixed in there.
Taste is, well, like a mix between a Porter and a Pale. Lots of caramelized malt but it's not sweet. There's way too much hop presence for this to be be a Brown. This has some fruit esters as well, most notibly apricot.
Mouthfeel is rather thick and full, actually, another sign it's not a Brown. Drinkability is good. This is a nice change from just drinking one style and I'll definately be seeking out more of these.

Malt and coffeelike notes in the body with a light bitterish finish. A lekker brown that isn’t as sweet as the English browns. JoeM500 (1876), Chicago (little italy), Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 15, 2002 Looks like a ’nut brown ale’ with a thin head that laces nicely. Has a nutty taste to it also, very bitter and a nice hoppy bite at the end. I’m left with that dark nutty taste, like roasted chestnuts afterwards. Pretty decent! Gusler (2655), Tucson, Arizona, USA

Nose is malt, caramel hints, maybe a bit nutty sweetness from the ’Black Malts’. Front slightly sweet, the top is light, acidic, dry, great hop bite that I like. Been more than a year since my last sample, still a decent drinkable beer. BeerLimey (1873), California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 29, 2005 Dark reddish brown, decent head formation. Lightly roasted malt, caramel, nutty aroma, slightly funky. Sweetish malt flavor, enhanced but well balanced chocolate, mild citrussy bite throughout. Pretty flavorful complex brown ale that never goes too far. bhensonb (4404), Woodland, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Jun 21, 2007 Bottle from Johns Market. Mysterious dark aromas. Not roasted/toasted malt. Not dark fruit. ? Deep reddish tones for color, with beige head that filmed out, but left "stuff". Medium bodied with moderate carbonation that renders the texture creamy as it leaves. The "brown" flavor is refined, seems to have spicey notes. This is not your everyday brown ale. It’s a sophisicate with some Belgian connections (or some spicy hop). The finish is dry, with (finally, I guess) toasted malt flavor, well balanced by some hop bitter. Leaves my mouth tingly. Way decent drink. argo0 (7044), Washington DC, USA
