cathcacr (504), Portland, Oregon, USA Jul 11, 2008 Aroma of mild but sometimes rich chocolaty goodness; standard appearance for an Impy, pretty standard flavor leaning toward woody, and medium body and finish. Try it blind next to the high-rated ones and see just how much branding is a factor in all these other biased ratings.
sersdf (844), chicago, Illinois, USA Jun 30, 2008 bottle. got from seattle. pretty black beeer, light beige head. pretty thin pour. this stuff smells pretty bad and soapy. chalk, burnt burning, etc.. tastes alright, pretty thin, not much malt or chocolate or vanilla or whatever. alright, enough time wasted rating this. 7.3% wtf? this guy sucks Alldaydrinker (450), Norwood, Massachusetts, USA Jun 25, 2008 Pours a dark black color with a small tan head. Nose of rich black malt, chocolate, coffee, roasted malts and touch fruits. The nose was overall weaker than expected, even though it displayed several qualities the black malt really dominated. Initial taste is creamy, coffee, roasted malt and dark chocolate. Finishing with a good hop balance, black malt and chocolate. Light to medium body. Good head retention and some spot lacing of the glass. Decent imperial stout, very drinkable, not complex but was a pleasure to have. aubreya (653), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Jun 18, 2008 The color was dark black/chocolate. The head was creamy, thin, and light beige. The aroma was coffee, sweet chocolate, and hops. The flavor was coffee, roasty, hops, and sweet malt. The palate was lively. Thefinish was hoppy. emacgee (976), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Jun 18, 2008 From liquidsolutions. Pours a dark black brew that allowed some light in the pour, sits black in the glass. Not that viscous and the head is thin and dark tan, dissipating quickly. The nose is sweet, light coffee, grain, not very dimensional. Roast is evident. The flavor is roasty, some coffee, soy sauce is THERE, grain, some other minor off flavors. Decent mouthfeel, not really that viscous or full, light coffee and little carbonation. The finish has coffee and soy sauce and leaves some minor off flavors. Overall, not what I would pick as my favorite RIS but not the worst I’ve had.
