Ughsmash (2615), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA May 1, 2008 Bottled. Poured clear, fairly deep brown with a short-lived cap of tan head. The aroma picked up semi-sweet chocolate, seared caramel, and vanilla with light earthiness around.. only the roast level hints toward "imperial" as the other components were not that intense, but it came across quite nicely. The flavor had roasted chocolate and coffee notes with bright pine stuck to licorice and light soy on the edges.. coffee and pine bitterness at the roasty, not-too-substantial finish.. this was tasty and could almost be considered refreshing. Medium-bodied with higher carbonation on the palate with bright, greener bitterness around.. well-balanced and enjoyable.
inkubus27 (53), USA May 12, 2008 Decent brew, but definitely not what I would consider an imperial stout. It felt a bit thin, and the flavor wasn’t as diverse as I would have liked. Mainly it lacked the characteristic roasted barley/coffee flavor associated with heavy imperial stouts. On the other hand this is a very drinkable brew that goes down quickly. rkuhnel (909), Eureka, California, USA May 3, 2008 From a 12 oz bottle poured a deep black with tan head and moderate lacing . Nose of chocolate, caramel malts, and molasses. Rich and clean mouthfeel. Flavor is of roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, and ripe fruit. Dry an bitter finish. Yum\. dwyerpg (1934), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Mar 20, 2008 Quite the coffee aroma. A little roasty. Flavor has a good coating taste, with a bit of hops in the finish. Decent but not great. hopscotch (4225), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Mar 13, 2008 Bottle... Pitch black ale with a small, light brown head. Sweet chocolate, caramel and vanilla with suggestions of brown sugar and cinnamon. Full-bodied with prickly carbonation and a whole-milk mouthfeel. Well-balanced flavor. Medium chocolate malt sweetness, but burnt and bitter as well. Coffee ground and cocoa finish. Whew, yet another from mgumby10! Can you say generous?
