3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Taverner (1044) - San Ramon, California, USA - SEP 17, 2008
This one scores high in the aroma category - full of fruity grapefruit notes. Pours a bitter hazy copper/brown with some off white head. Flavor is bitter, but not overwhelmingly so, followed by a biscuity finish. At 5%, it makes up for lack of ABV with a huge hop profile, and it doesn’t do an overkill on the bittering hops, and gives enough florals to keep it interesting.

NIce copper pour with brilliant white and lasting head, leaving lacing all over the glass. Nice floral aromas wtih a tangy malted scent for balance. Apricots, wheaty caramel and fruited notes bringing up mid to late palate before a lingering dusty bittering finish. Good mouthfeel and quite well balanced, full in flavor. Clean and quenching, would be a wonderful session beer for a spicy bbq.

This is a good hophead’s IPA. Deep orange in color with a frothy white head, it begins quietly with an aroma of sweet flowers and oranges. When it hits the mouth, the first thing you taste is the pleasant caramel malt. Briefly. The hops explode in the mouth in a riotous profusion of hop bitterness that soon causes the lips to tingle as well. It’s got a nice long bitter finish that leaves the mouth watering for more. I’ve got to try this brewery’s IIPA, too.

Cask, pours an amber body with an off whit head. Citrus, grapefruit hoppy bitterness. A mild earthy tone. Initially its more sweet then the bitter herbal hop resinous earth y character dries it out. Nice ipa.

12 oz bottle. Pours a nice copper with hints of orange. Small creamy head with nice lacing. Stong hoppy orange peel aroma with hints of pine. Tastes the same as the aroma, but add grapefruit to the mix. Nice balance of hops and sweetness. Bold hoppy lingerness. Great IPA.

Received a 12-oz bottle via trade with André in Seattle. Pours a clear coppery amber brew with a thick and lumpy off-white head that has excellent retention and some spotty/sticky lacing. Aroma of grapefruit and lime zest, a touch of caramel malt, and some mild biscuit. Taste is medium bodied, some carbonation with flavors of caramel malt, some orange zest, grapefruit juice and a touch of white pepper. Finish has a lingering mild bitterness that quickly kicks in and then fades slowly after the finish. The west coast caliper IPA category fits this brew very well.

12oz bottle from RiversideAK. Pours cloudy amber with a moderate sized off white head. Good of lace. Smells earthy and caramelly malty with sweet, citrus notes. Tastes citrusy and earthy hoppy with a good dose of sweetish cereal malt in there. Good, balanced, bitter yet slightly sweet. Medium body, good carbonation.
