3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
perhaps the most bitter tasting beer I’ve ever had. pallate is oily (presumably from the hops), the nose is sharp but floral. we are talking serious hops here. unlike some other extreme IPA’s I’ve had - it doesn’t have the malt / alchohol to back it up - so the experience is kind off-balance. predominant flavor seems to be citrus / grapefruit.
if you are a -serious- hophead you might enjoy this stuff - for me it’s too much.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft - Light Mandarin and citrus with some sweet caramel. Clear gold with a small white head. Light Mandarin, some bitterness and finishes a bit tropical. A little watery and has a dry finish.

Tried this at a buddy’s house and was told it was a new recipe. Love the new packaging. I can’t really remember the last time I had this beer, but whatever they did to the recipe... well done.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle from BevX360, Bellingham
Hazy amber color with generous head. This is a semi-dry and lean bodied Amber Ale, with forgettable aroma, some caramel flavor, ordinary bitterness and very little hop quality. Not an IPA; still drinkable.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Clear amber pour. Aromas of biscuity malts, grapefruit. Flavour has a nice bready malt backing with citrus - lemon and grapefruit. Finishes slightly bitter. Nice.

2.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
poured from bottle to new belgium tulip
A: amber in color. low to no head or bubbles. Great clarity.
S: Fruity. Very, very hoppy nose. Expect this one was dry hopped, twice. Apricots, citrus, slight pine on nose.
T: My nose deceived me. This ale has the smack of early hops, but little or no compliments from mid to late additions to wort. Low fruitfulness for a PNW IPA.
M: thinly falls around tongue. light body. dry finish.
D: Maybe my bottle was not fresh, as none of the anticipated flavors were there. On the contrary, the beta acids provided in the nose, so, I guess this IPA is just not for me.

Bottle- pours a crystal clear Amber with a nice off white head and good lacing. Floral, citrus aroma with a touch of bread. Cream from the everlasting head with great mouthfeel, good hop bite balanced with pine, caramel and citrus quality.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Pours a crystal clear light brown color with a fairly thick off-white head on it. Nose has some nice hoppiness on it, with some nice floral and resiny tones to it. Taste is fairly bitter, with a slight bit of earthiness to it that makes it a little weird.

I was attracted to this beer because of the logo, a pirate ship and a treasure map of India. I’ll pretend I am drinking a pirate beer.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Slightly hazy deep copper and amber coloured body with a thin, one centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of light earthy and citrusey hops, some good malt, a hint of caramel and a bit of floral notes. Medium-bodied; Assertive nutty and earthy malt notes at first with a good english hoppy flavour and more of a pronounced hop feel and a chalkier/meatier malt flavour profile. Aftertaste shows nuts, caramel, a hint of bitterness and some more traditional West Coast IPA flavours, but not much - just a tiny hop bitterness. Overall, a decent and different IPA than I was expecting, but one worth trying if you are interested in an English style IPA or one that breaks the mold of a West Coast IPA. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Pear Delicatessen in Seattle, Washington on 08-February-2013 for US$2.00 sampled at home in [the real] Washington on 28-February-2013.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at NorthWest Sausage & Deli in Centralia, WA. Pours a clear orange-gold colored body with a thin, frothy, off-white head that dissipates slowly and leaves a moderate soapy lacing. Aroma is floral grapefruits with some light pine resins and a somewhat bready, light caramel malt backing. Flavor is similar. Earthy and floral grapefruits with some light pine resins and a somewhat bready, lightly sweetened caramel malt backing. Finishes moderately bitter and dry before leaving a lengthy aftertaste. Medium body and a soft, moderate carbonation. Overall, a decent IPA. Nothing special, but well hopped and enjoyable. Not bad.
