COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dick’s Lava Rock Porter is a dark and rich beer with a plethora of deep, malty flavors. Copious amounts of caramel, chocolate and black malts are added to the mash along with enough Magnum hops to balance the malty wort. We then add two additions of Mt. Hood hops for a generous hop flavor and great aroma. The Porter is dark brown, almost black in color, with lots of body and smooth drinkability.

Bottle pours a dark dark brown with brick red hues.   Tannish head is thick and foamy.   Carbonation is sufficient, but lacing is a bit slick.   Bittersweet chocolate and coffee aroma.   Taste is slightly burnt, and very bitter (but not hoppy).   Mouthfeel is adequate.   Flavors on the finish are of a smokey coffee sort.   Not the best porter I've had, but still very enjoyable!

Draft - Toasted malts. Deep dark brown with a light brown head. Toasted malts, light bitterness and a roasty malt finish. Nice.

Bottle. Pours a very dark brown color with a moderate tan head that quickly disappears. Nose actually seems a little sour to me, with just a hint of roasty and chocolate flavors in there. Taste is also a bit sour, which was surprising to me. Fairly smooth, but not all that tasty.

Reviewed 06/23/10 poured from bottle to new belgium tulip A: deep brown on pour. obvious yeast cake in bottle. low carbonation avg for bottle conditioned beer. deep brown, the beer is difficult to assess given the depth of color. Light, velvety head translucent. Ongoing ribbon presumed on cap at center of ale top. S: I could smell the chocolate, coffee, roastiness of ale while pouring into glass. full bodied and rich, slight hop pine scent in background. T: Thick, rich. lacks normal astringency i taste in many porters. Slightly burnt aftertaste. M: rolls over tongue and foams slightly. Leaves creamy, slick coating on tongue. D: good beer. one of my favorite porters. Always recommend when asked about micro porters. Serving type: bottle 12-20-2010

Very tasty. Smokey up front but sweet malty finish. Slight coffee twinge in the midst of it all. Really a great beer to have in the fall. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This Porter is a dark brown, nearly black color with a medium beige head that dissipates steadily. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of malt and coffee. Medium body with flavors of chocolate, malt and slight hops. The finish is roasty with a sweet chocolate malt aftertaste. Slightly above average overall.

355ml bottle pours a dark brown almost black color with a finger of light beige head that leaves some spotty lacing. Aroma is chocolate with hints of caramel and roasted grains. Taste is malty sweet with some bitterness from the hops and roasted grains. Medium bodied with light carbonation. A pretty good porter and good representation of the style, as I find most porters taste more like stouts.

Bottle: Poured black with brown edges, head was beige cream. Aroma was sweet malt and chocolate. Taste is rich and gritty roasted burnt chocolate and malts, finish is palate drying.

Frothy tan head, cola brown, smell is mild grass, chocolate, roast, and dust. Flavor is lightly sweet, chocolate, grass, leaves, hints of candy, nuts and burnt barley. palate has medium-coarseness fizz. Light-bodied.

Beautiful burgandy color with a nice foamy cream colored head. Leaves a nice lace in the glass. The flavor is light with a subtle toasted malt flavor. To me more of an Amber Ale than a Porter. But an overall pleasing drinkable ale.

Way too many hops were added to this Porter. It does not even taste like a Porter. Major disappointment.
