3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 bhensonb (7581) - Woodland, USA - JUN 25, 2007
Bottle; now labeled as Mountain Amber Ale. Strong malty aroma - caramel plus. Almost smells like a brown ale. The color of ripe apricot flesh; the white head never got far, and then retreated to film. Light lacing as the glass is lightly twirled. Medium body; medium carbonation. Almost creamy as the carbonation leaves. The malt is harsh, much like many brown ales. Earthy. The hop seems floral, and a sour taste pops up. Could be citrus. Seems a bit like the sour notes in many Siletz ales. The final finish is unsmooth medium dark malt - not the sugar, just the roast. The hop seems to never break even. Interesting. More guts than many ambers.

Bottle in a pint. Label says Dick’s Mountain Amber Ale - from their delightful mixed 12 pack. Pours clear, light amber-brown. No head. Aroma of fruit, malt, and something spoiled. Light sweet malty flavor, light-med body, and fruity finish. It’s your typical amber.

Medium amber, egg-shell head which fades to a ring at the edges. Aroma is a light, medium-darkness caramel with notes of forest and earth. Body is medium-light. Flavor brings out more weed/bark/pine hops with a grainy-caramel touch of sweetness (which is really just barely sweet). Very sessionable... ok.

Bottle. Pours a toffee amber with an average off-white head. Aroma is very toasty. Flavour is toasty toffee with an interesting fruity acidity in the finish. Mildly bitter. Simple but solid, a nice amber.

12oz bottle pours clear copper – gold with thin white head. Does the “mountain” part of this amber prevent it from attaining an amber color? This is the goldest amber I’ve ever seen. The aroma is sweet malts mixing with caramel malts and a touch of biscuit and toffee. The taste has some modest yet vague to maybe pine hoppy notes blending with caramel malts, sweet sugary malts and a touch of roastiness. I think I get a sense of citrus into the finish. Interesting interpretation.

Draft. Pours an amber body with an off white head. Malty body with caramel and dry earth tones. A mild malt sweetness with a mild bitter earth finish, pretty average.

From a bottle. Very average Amber Ale. After taste a little on the malty side... not my favorite.

Pours a light amber color with fairly thin white head. Aroma of dough but a bit sour. Flavor is not really a sweetness you would be looking for, but that same sour doughiness. At least it leaves the palate fairly quickly.
