3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 bhensonb (7581) - Woodland, California, USA - JUN 25, 2007
Bottle; now labeled as Mountain Amber Ale. Strong malty aroma - caramel plus. Almost smells like a brown ale. The color of ripe apricot flesh; the white head never got far, and then retreated to film. Light lacing as the glass is lightly twirled. Medium body; medium carbonation. Almost creamy as the carbonation leaves. The malt is harsh, much like many brown ales. Earthy. The hop seems floral, and a sour taste pops up. Could be citrus. Seems a bit like the sour notes in many Siletz ales. The final finish is unsmooth medium dark malt - not the sugar, just the roast. The hop seems to never break even. Interesting. More guts than many ambers.
3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 3fourths (6401) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JAN 3, 2004
This one is all malt, smooth and light, very soft and subtle flavors of bready malts. No hops whatsoever. Very plain, not exciting, but drinkable. The aroma is a highlight with a bright honey quality.

Hazy dark brown with an oily film of head and light sticky lacing. The aroma is toasty and malty with a light fruity hop, fairly average. The flavor is full bodied with a weird hop bitterness and a peanut brittle taste. The finish is a little tangy, very average. Eh.

12oz bottle pours clear copper – gold with thin white head. Does the “mountain” part of this amber prevent it from attaining an amber color? This is the goldest amber I’ve ever seen. The aroma is sweet malts mixing with caramel malts and a touch of biscuit and toffee. The taste has some modest yet vague to maybe pine hoppy notes blending with caramel malts, sweet sugary malts and a touch of roastiness. I think I get a sense of citrus into the finish. Interesting interpretation.

Bottle: Amber, slight haze, large dishwater like head, off-white, spotty lacing, strong carbonation.   Wet grain on the nose, very slight kilned grain.   Cardboardy maltiness to start, fairly grainy, slightly sweet.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Grainy finish, slightly earthy.   Not as sweet or smooth as I like.   Boring...
