3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
My extraordarily vague idea of Alt, never having drunk any before, was of some smooth, light (in colour and body) creation, just one step removed from bog standard lager; what I got was something smooth, surprisingly dark, sweetish, malty and very drinkable; reminded me of a south-western English bitter; distinctive and impressive.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Helder bruin bier met schuim. Smaak is bitter hoppig en licht zoet, lichte rooksmaar met sporen van caramel. Blijft redelijk lang hangen, erg goed bier.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottle 0.5 l. Amber color, medium head. Some chocolate/caramel notes in both aroma and flavor. Little bit grainy. For style there is missing some body. It is too empty. Tastes too much like commercial lager. Spalt? Where are you?

Nice move by LH to put the local stuff on tap at DUS--and it’s great. Smooth, velvety mouthfeel, layered palate (bit of smoke, bit of caramel, bit of hops), brooding appearance, rich head. Excellent intro to the style, for sure

Diebels Premium Altbier was the first example of the style I ever tasted and I still have the impression it is the most ’commercial’ Altbier. Claims to have been perfected in the eighties by adding roasted malt and a second hop variety. Off-white head on a deep copper robe, caramelly taste with some smokiness and a leafy hop bitterness in the finish. I remember this was quite enjoyable, though I had better Alts since then.

Diminishing pearl white head. Clear copper body.
Aroma; dark caramel, wort, hops, fruits, meadow, grass. Taste; caramel, apple, bread, grains, hops, citrus peel. Normal on palate, normal body. Ends with hops, dark malts, plums, chocolate bread. Tasty and easy.
