COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
DIEBELS Alt is brewed according to the German Purity Law of 1516. Under this "Reinheitsgebot", only four ingredients are allowed: Barley malts, hops, yeast, and water. The dark-roasted special malt lends DIEBELS its unmistakable amber glow.

Dark and Delicious. For a dark, flavorful beer, DIEBELS is surprisingly light and drinkable - a beer you can enjoy all night long. It isn't bitter like many ales, and it doesn't have the strong aftertaste of certain imports.

My first altbier. Amber colour, few head, soon disappearing. Caramel and hops in the aroma. The flavour is quite sweet (caramel and toffee) with some fruity notes (plums) and a good hoppy finish. It seems quite like an English beer with the typical German hoppy flavour. Strange, but i quite liked it.

On trip back to Munster, actually forgot grocery stores were closed on Sundays, so didn’t go to one to get crates of beer on Saturday. Then driving back on Sun, took a wrong turn and stumbled upon a gas station c-store...and it turns out we were back across the German border slightly! So grabbed a few beers, including Diebels. Classic alt look and feel. Maybe missing a bit of depth and freshness vs. the legends in Dusseldorf. But solid.

On tap at the Lufthansa Senator Lounge at Düsseldorf Airport. (DUS) Clear light amber with a large head. Soft with malt, some dried fruit, nuts and hints of caramel. The finish was dry. Easy to drink. Really nice to found an Altbier in an airline lounge.

A good Alt! Slight aroma of chocolate, a red brown appearance and a light sweet taste.

Bottle in Dusseldorf airport lounge, served a little warm. Chestnut colour, quite high carbonation. Too many bottled ales especially in England taste a bit like this, overfizzy, some bitterness, toasty bitter malt, this one relatively clean yeast profile. Fine, drinkable, unremarkable, hopefully next time in Dusseldorf will have time to find it on tap.

33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ Hogerdijk, Culemborg. Clear dark amber/light brown with an off-white head. Malty, very slightly smoked, aroma with some caramel. Taste is semi-bitter and the body is thin but fitting for the style.

Brewed in Issum - Niederrhein, Germany and poured from a 0.33 l bottle in the Rhein-Main area in Germany. Clear brown beer with thin light brown head. Very drinkable and smooth with slight bitter after taste. I like it.
