COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
DIEBELS Alt is brewed according to the German Purity Law of 1516. Under this "Reinheitsgebot", only four ingredients are allowed: Barley malts, hops, yeast, and water. The dark-roasted special malt lends DIEBELS its unmistakable amber glow.

Dark and Delicious. For a dark, flavorful beer, DIEBELS is surprisingly light and drinkable - a beer you can enjoy all night long. It isn't bitter like many ales, and it doesn't have the strong aftertaste of certain imports.

My first altbier. Amber colour, few head, soon disappearing. Caramel and hops in the aroma. The flavour is quite sweet (caramel and toffee) with some fruity notes (plums) and a good hoppy finish. It seems quite like an English beer with the typical German hoppy flavour. Strange, but i quite liked it.

Bottle 0.5 l. Amber color, medium head. Some chocolate/caramel notes in both aroma and flavor. Little bit grainy. For style there is missing some body. It is too empty. Tastes too much like commercial lager. Spalt? Where are you?

On bottle at kneipe in Wiesbaden. Brown color, good foam. Aromas of malt, light dried fruits; medium aroma intensity. Medium body & complexity. Some bitterness, smooth and balances very well. Enjoyable

Nice move by LH to put the local stuff on tap at DUS--and it’s great. Smooth, velvety mouthfeel, layered palate (bit of smoke, bit of caramel, bit of hops), brooding appearance, rich head. Excellent intro to the style, for sure

Aroma: oak, basement, roasted nuts, caramel; Appearance: dark amber, clear, small vanishing head; Taste: medium bitterness, medium sourness, slight sweetness; Palate: average carbonation, medium body, slick texture, bitter finish Very rich taste compared to the body, dry though very drinkable. Well-paired with aspic, Harz cheese, sour cucumbers

Diebels Premium Altbier was the first example of the style I ever tasted and I still have the impression it is the most ’commercial’ Altbier. Claims to have been perfected in the eighties by adding roasted malt and a second hop variety. Off-white head on a deep copper robe, caramelly taste with some smokiness and a leafy hop bitterness in the finish. I remember this was quite enjoyable, though I had better Alts since then.

Diminishing pearl white head. Clear copper body. Aroma; dark caramel, wort, hops, fruits, meadow, grass. Taste; caramel, apple, bread, grains, hops, citrus peel. Normal on palate, normal body. Ends with hops, dark malts, plums, chocolate bread. Tasty and easy. [33 cl. br btl. 4.9%abv.°. BB01.09.14]
