Mklein818 (165), Etterbeek, Virginia, Belgium Nov 8, 2009 Not much is grand about this offering--it’s an improvement over the basic inbev-commodity pilsner that is produced under the Diekirch brand, but it is a bit lacking in taste and strength to make it worth an effort to find. A faint sweetness is really all that distinguishes it, oh yeah, and a ceramic-topped bottle and ceramic mugs. DruncanVeasey (2690), The Penguin’s Arms, Europe, Warwickshire, England Oct 28, 2009 Fliptop courtesy of the ever-generous Ma and Pa Jenner. Wisp of bathsuds over brilliant amber-bronze, collapsing to nothing. Slight vegetative aroma with caramel, garden hop, faint gravy, leaves and metal...maybe a dusting of coriander. Caramelised John Smiths banality beyond (not that I’d know); chocolate spread on cardboard, brown sugar, wholemeal crumbs. Easy to knock back and not technically a bad beer, just bland, sugary and embarassed by the Echt Veldensteiner Landbier I just saw off. Weakest Grand Cru in the history of beer? Nekronos (2243), Xalapa, Mexico Aug 24, 2009 My first Luxemburg beer and it was very good along with another, this beer was a very nice surprise. I thought beers from there were not as good as them but the shape was awesome. delnoche (210), Germany Jul 17, 2009 33cl bottle poured into a lager glass. Beautiful dark amber with a very modest off-white head. Aroma is sweet, slight raisin. Flavor is slightly sweet with pleasantly balancing hops. Medium carbonation. Lightly bitter finish. Nice brew. bu11zeye (5430), Frisco, Texas, USA Jun 5, 2009 (33cl bottle) Pours a clear amber body with a medium off-white head. Aroma of caramel, grain, and toasted bread. Flavor of caramel malt, grass, and light honey. patrick767 (2016), fort wayne, Indiana, USA May 27, 2009 bottle, though the presentation from the bar was in a nifty ceramic mug with Diekirch Grand Cru on it - Pours amber, I assume as it’s hard to see in the opaque mug. There’s a thin off white head that lasts a long time. It has a mild malty aroma. The taste is sweet malt and should definitely be allowed to warm as dark fruit flavors of cherry and berries come out. It’s bubbly and medium bodied with a little dryness in the finish. Refreshing. I liked it anyway. Ober (1161), Bommelerwaard, Netherlands Dec 15, 2008 An amber colored beer, with thick off-white head. The aroma is sweet, caramel malt and a little fruit. The taste is bittersweet, some hops and thin. The aftertaste is long bitter, after a while a kind of vanilla flavor. fata2683 (836), Panama City, Florida, USA Sep 23, 2008 Bottle from Vianden Luxembourg. Pours dark brown with red hues. Thin tan head that fades quickly. Smells of wood, slightly piney, yeast. Taste is of sweet carmel, slightly sour, nice bitterness. Great mouthfeel creamy and rich with moderate carbonation. Finish is bitter and lingers. Nice suprise.
