Pours a dark reddish brown with an off white head. Some chocolate and nutty aromas but faint. The taste is a bit light for a porter but does have some bitterness that seems to lessen the sweetness a good bit. Not bad, and it is drinkable, but it doesnít have anything really standing out about it. Average...

Opaque brown with a thin head cover, dots of lace. Taste is sweet caramel malt with a bitter edge that comes along in the palate. Very simple and straightforward, but really very little going on.

Pounder: Walnut and charcoal nose, not strong. Mahogany, thick tan head, good lacing. Walnut on the front and back of the palate. Coffee in between, lightly sweet. Some tinniness. Medium body, soft carbonation. Good transitions. Really pretty good and at a very good price. A good go to porter when youíre on a budget, and even if youíre not.

This was an okay beer. It paired well enough with the ice cream we were eating, though it lost its fizz pretty quickly. Just ok.

Pours a soda brown with a small khaki head that leave a bit of spotty lacing. Aroma of cocoa, toasty caramel malts, a touch of nuttiness. Taste is a fair amount of cocoa mixed with caramel and soap. A bit too bitter. Light-medium bodied with a thin, watery texture and average carbonation. Decent cocoa and malty finish that also is a bit bitter. Not bad, but nothing that really stands out either.

Cola-hued pour with a light khaki head. Lightly toasted malt nose with just a touch of coffee. Flavor is mild roasted malts and the body overall is pretty thin. Just not a lot going on here. Weak and watery.

16 oz can from Kroger. Pours dark cola brown with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have some roasted malt, though lighter than Iím used to, cocoa powder, hints of coffee, some mineral qualities. The body is on the thin side, not offensive, but I probably wonít revisit this.

12 ounce bottle from Bottle & Wedge, Huntington. Pours a dark red brown color with a thin fizzy brown head. Fair head retention. Aroma of green apple and mild chocolate. The taste is cocoa, green apple. Thin bodied. Meh.

12/23/2013: Dieselpunk Porter... Iím surprised that this beer is rated to low. Okay, itís not awesome, but itís still pretty decent, especially at the inexpensive print point of $5.49/4-pack on sale! This porter is dry, roasty, and has a nice mineral characteristic; thereís also a twist of sweet licorice in the middle along with some cocoa powder; it bounces between lightly sweet and nicely dry. The body might be a touch thin, but that along with the lighter flavors makes this beer go down easily and not end up feeling heavy and overly filling. I like and and feel that it pairs nicely with BBQ and other meals. 16 pint can (6.5% ALC/VOL) from Krogerís in Waterville, Ohio. Rating #25 for this beer.

This is a decent porter. Itís nothing earth shattering. Pours dark and is translucent. Itís not real bitter. Has a decent taste but nothing unique. If this is your first porter, itís a decent start but there are better porters out there.

The appearance has a clear very dark reddish brown color with a large off-white head that fades fairly quickly, and the aroma is a single-faceted scent of roasted malts. The taste is a bit disappointing due to the lack of robustness seen through the slight sourness, touch of sweetness, and touch of umami; furthermore, the palate combines thin and slick texture, average carbonation, medium body, and a malty finish, the last of which is the only redeeming factor of this beer when itís in your mouth.
