Ungstrup (10824), Frederiksberg, Denmark Nov 11, 2005 [January 2005 version - sampled July 2005] A hazy deep red beer with a small orange head. The aroma is sweet with lots of wood, but also some maple sirup. The flavor has the maple syrup running in the cheeks, while the wood dries out the tongue - add to this notes of cherries, and You have a wonderful beer. Papsoe (9663), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jun 12, 2008 (Bottle 34,1 cl) Courtesy of Storm. Pours a hazy, dark amber golden with an off-white head. Aroma of caramel, fruit, nuts and some alcohol. Rather full-bodied with sweetish, burned caramel and overripe fruit. Warming alcoholic finish with a short, dry bitterness. Delicious. 060608 Oakes (6784), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Apr 3, 2003 Mahogany/brown; huge rich maltiness leaps out of the glass. Notable maple influence, especially in the palate. Chewy, caramel, toffee. Hints of wood and brandy. Dry, alcoholic finish. The maple adds an extra layer to this rich Scotch ale, without taking anything away. Great choice for a spring brew in a cold city. sk8viking (6028), Copenhagen, Denmark Jun 19, 2008 Bottle. A dark red brown beer with a big beige head. The first thing in the aroma is carboard, not very plesant, but the caramel, alcohol, fruit, rye bread and floral part is quit nise, especialy in the taste. Medium body with a sparkeling, dry alcoholic finish. argo0 (6018), Washington DC, USA Sep 30, 2003 (bottle dated 2/02) Hazy red-brown with medium beige head. Aroma is medium sweet, caramel, peaty. Taste is very sweet, caramel, maple, light peat. Medium-full body, smooth. Good beer, but it's too sweet for me.
