Brown bottle, 341 ml, drank in a Dieu du Ciel! glass, purchased at Jovi on May 3 2008, savoured on May 8 2008; eye: caramel with a reddish hue, hazy, lots of creamy beige head that turnes into a layer to protect the beer, no lacing; nose: butterscotch, feels the maple presence more than its odour, grainy malt, alcohol, light ash; mouth: creamy, malt, sweet, again, feels more the presence of the maple than taste it, and so is the case for the alcohol, pleasant dryness, a bit liqueur-like, candied fruits, woody, light ash, a bit cloying, quite carbonated, medium body, rather sweet, lightly bitter; overall: quite likable

Bouteille brune, 341 ml, bue dans un verre Dieu du Ciel!, achetée chez Jovi le 3 mai 2008, savourée le 8 mai 2008; œil : caramel foncée avec une teinte rougeâtre, voilée, mousse beige abondante qui se transforme en un petit tapis, pas de dentelle; nez : butterscotch, devine la présence de l’érable sans vraiment la sentir, malt granuleux, alcool, léger cendré; bouche : crémeux, malt, sucrée, de nouveau, on devine plus la présence d’érable qu’on la goûte, de même pour l’alcool, sécheresse plaisante, un peu liquoreuse, fruits confits, boisé, léger cendré, petite amertume, finale en malt avec présence d’érable, un peu toquante, très carbonatée, corps moyen, plutôt sucré, légèrement amère; en résumé : bien aimé

Pours deep, hazy red-brown with a small, unimpressive, fizzy, off-white film head. Good fruity aroma, some berries, a good dose of caramel, some toffee, lightly roasted. Medium carbonation, impressive, oily mouthfeel. Great flavour. Lots of dryish chocolate, some roasted malts, toffee and caramel. Some fruitiness again. Good hoppy finish with a generous dose of spiciness. Great beer.
Marsiblursi (1404), Gö te la borrrrg, Sweden
Aug 22, 2008 (Bottle) Pours deep red with a small sand colored head. The aroma is sweet with tones of maple syrup, dried fruits like prunes, tobacco, roasted nuts/almonds, wood, light chocolate, ripe bananas, ripe apples, vanilla, toffee and candi sugar. Good alcohol warmth is present with notes of brandy, liquor and old port. Hints of hops and maybe a whisper of lingonberries and raspberries. The flavour has a harmonic sweetness that brings tones of nutty and toffee-like maple syrup, dark dried fruits and caramel. Undertones of spices and hops. The finish is light bitter and numbing with tones of cocoa, hops and alcohol. The mouthfeel is full, soft, smooth and light velvety. The beer leaves an oily coat on your palate. Medium to full bodied.

Aug 16, 2008 Dark brown-red colour. Has an off-white head, mostly lasting. Aroma has port, spice. sweet fruit. Flavor is harmonic, finish moderate bitter. A bit astringent. Lively carbonation. Warming alcohol.
JMFG (1140), Florida, USA
Aug 15, 2008 Ruddy brown color with very little head - a ring of light tan head. Sweet aroma, rich malts, not much of a spice component. Some maple detected, light peat. Rich, almost tannic malts on the taste, nice finish, tinged by the maple syrup. Very nice.
Grovlam (3086), Copenhagen, Denmark
Aug 13, 2008 Bottle. Large thick rich foamy beige head that mostly lasted. Good display of lacework. Somewhat cloudy copper-amber like color. Aromas of smooth toasted malt, light grainy feel, hint of fruit and light alcoholic nose as well. Some underlying caramelized notes. Over the palate came and unexpected explosion of harmonious notes of mainly malty notes, but also fruit and almost raisins, light vinous, nutty; particular walnuts, spice and maybe a hint of smoke in there somewhere. Full bodied with a soft carbonation and quite smooth thick and alcoholic texture. Moderated to heavy sweet flavor with good counter bitterness. Lingering nutty and light spicy warming alcoholic finish. This was quite an impressive and surprisingly good beer.
