3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Light amber pour with a white head. The aroma is full of grain notes. The flavor is a bit more complex. I get some nice orange and candy sugar notes as well as some toffee. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: DEC 26, 2011 In short: A very big pilsner that remains just as drinkable as a good regular pilsner. Excellent
How: Tap at brewpub
The look: Cloudy dark golden body topped by a off-white ring of foam
In long: Nose is like smelling a hay stack. A whole lot of malt in this one. Crunchy honeyed cereals abound. Sweetness is rather well balanced by a hefty amount of slightly spicy grassy hops with a light tree bark character. I still donít think an Imperial Pilsner is a great idea but this one is the exception to the rule. Unlike most Imperial Pilsner this one remains as highly drinkable as an excellent regular pilsner except that itís bigger and more intense. An example of excellence for this sub-type. Öand on the seventh day God was hangover.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle: Poured a clear dark golden color ale with a medium size foamy head with good retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of sweet malt with light dry hops notes is interesting. Taste is more dominated by sweet malt notes then Nobel dry hops then I was expecting. Body is fuller then expected with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Interesting take of the style but I would personally have preferred more Noble hops notes.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Clear copper pour, thin white head. Nice aroma of german hops, quite grassy, some malty pumpkin-like presence too. Taste is full of hoppy bitterness, residual sugars, fruity alcohol. Palate is nice, med bodied, good carbonation, nice finish. Probably one of the best imperial pilsners Iíve had.

Draught at the brewpub
Amber, light head, nice lacing. Nose of light hops, some creamy malts and sweet flavor. Itís very nice and balanced, not much alcohol and plenty of malty fruit. Bien!

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
On draught at the brewpub and at the fest, June 2005. Light, yet brilliant goldenrod and straw colored beer, slight chill haze, but mostly clear, with a moderate white head, decent retention, low lacing. Aroma of grassy, rustic, floral, herbal, citrus and spicy hops. Everything but the bathroom sink, as far as the hops profile, it seems. Notes of sweet pils malt, but mainly just the juicy fruits. Flavor is full of hops, more flavor than bitterness, but still plenty of bitterness. Juicy fruits from the nose, grapefruit, minty/herbal hops, green grassy hops. Malt provides a backbone, of sweet honey and light doughiness, but does not have that syrupy, hugely sweet thickness that other Imperial Pilseners have. And when the hops are done this well, thatís a good thing. Some of the most flavorful hops belches Iíve encountered. FInish is moderately bitter, lightly spicy and fairly sweet, with a medium body. I didnt find any alcohol. Carbonation was relatively low for the style, and the mouthfeel was slick and bordering creamy at points, though there is some thinning of body on the end. Could stand a little more crisp yeast in the nose too. I really like J.F.ís pilseners.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
(Draught) At the brewpub. Described as an Imperial Pilsner, this beer has kick, body and looks. I was very impressed with the malty flavours covering the orange and peach undertones. Extremely well balanced. Lovely colour and deserving of a second sample - which I had!

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tap- RBSG 05. Pours a deep copper with a slight film of a head. Aroma is thick sweet pure pilsner malt, lightly bready with a touch of dms. Some alcohol and spice from the european hops are noticed throughout but it is mostly dominated by malt. Moderate bitter finish in the end. Relatively smooth overall but a bit hot in alcohol.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle (341 ml). Completely clear golden with a medium mostly diminishing white head and huge lacing. Aroma is grassy and mineral with notes of caramel and alcohol. Taste is grassy with booze, noble hops and caramel. Mouthfeel is oily. Impressive body for a pilsner. This beer is greatly balanced, quite complex and fairly drinkable for is 8.5% abv. Massive Imperial Pilsner. Another wonderful beer by DDC!
