Commercial Description:
Black ale with aromas and flavours of vanilla, dark chocolate, bourbon and roasted malt. The vanilla and cocoa marry nicely, without out-competing each other, to produce a surprisingly well balanced beer. This beer is mildly hoppy, but the cocoa introduces a touch of bitterness. Its colour may be intimidating, but it is a very smooth beer within reach of most beer drinkers. This highly appreciated dessert beer is brewed with organic fair-trade cocoa and first rate vanilla beans.

Bottle from my main man StFun – thanks Josh! Pours crude oil black with a 2 finger dense brown head. The nose is roast, vanilla, cocoa, coffee and chocolate. The taste is burnt malt, dark roast coffee, ash, vanilla and dark fruits with a slight bitter finish. Medium creamy mouthfeel. Damn good Stout. Thanks again J for sending this my way!

12oz bottle sampled at Sexual Chocolate Day 2010. Watery, opaque black with light, cloudy tan head. Nose is SUPER chocolatey, almost like a liquid candy bar, nuts, light coffee with cream. Flavor is very sweet but not disgustingly sweet, brown sugar, nice cake icing, light toast, light coffee with cream. Finish is super smooth, very drinkable.

If this was affordable, it’d be a staple for me. It’s about as close too the edge of beer as you can get without forgetting your drinking a beer. The aroma is full of caramel, chocolate, coffee, espresso, and roasted malts. The hobs are muted. The adjuncts give everything from alcohol to banana, licorice, vanilla, and smoke. The appearance is the only issue of concern here it is dark opaque black body with mininimal brass colored thin collar The beer looks exactly like an espresso. The taste is amazing, cocoa powder, chocolate dark and light, espresso. All of which is perfectly balanced. The beer is so smooth. It’s right on the edge of what you imagine beer can be. It portends to be a beer, but really is so much closer in taste and action to a great chocolate elixir. I imagine this is a close approximation to the old Aztec chocolate alcohol drink. The beer’s body is not as full as you would imagine, it’s extremely creamy, but finds a way to finish slick and clean. The carbonation is soft. The beer makes you think it will be bitter, but it dims the moment before you ever get that astringent coffee or espresso finish. Amazing beer.
