Taste is astringent, sour coffee, and bitter cocoa- vanilla sweetness.
Mouthfeel is full, and bitter.
Finish is astringent, slightly bitter, and amazingly, not cloying in any way.
Coffee, vanilla, and cocoa dominate this brew, obviously.
Very nice.

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 19, 2009 From a 12oz Bottle. Courtesy of oteyj. Pours a mostly transparent, chocolately black color with tannic hues and a two finger head of fine bubbled, beige foam. Rich chocolate-cocoa notes on top of a firm roast malt base. The vanilla is noticeable, but plays more of a back-up role to the chocolate and roast. It’s kind of three dimensional in that way, chocolate, roast, vanilla - in that order. No real hop or yeast characters present in the aroma, leaving a nice, clean impression. Medium bodied, moderately carbonated mouthfeel with a somewhat thin, yet pleasing texture. The flavors are more of the same from the nose - chocolate, roast, and vanilla, in order of strength. Finishes clean and chocolately, with a touch of milky sweetness. Great flavors; my only complaint is the body doesn’t really stand up to the richness of the flavors. No oxidation detected, but I think some (or more) flaked barley or oats could really enhance the mouthfeel while keeping the same flavor integrity. Very attractive aroma of chocolate, roasted malts, and a light vanilla note. Taste is very complex, with a full, rich mouth feel. Roasted malt, rich chocolate, roasted (but not burnt) malts, vanilla, caramel, sweet cream and a little bit of hops. Very well balanced, nothing short of world-class. jaghana (103), Strasbourg, France
