Commercial Description:
Black ale with aromas and flavours of vanilla, dark chocolate, bourbon and roasted malt. The vanilla and cocoa marry nicely, without out-competing each other, to produce a surprisingly well balanced beer. This beer is mildly hoppy, but the cocoa introduces a touch of bitterness. Its colour may be intimidating, but it is a very smooth beer within reach of most beer drinkers. This highly appreciated dessert beer is brewed with organic fair-trade cocoa and first rate vanilla beans.

I smell malt and Caramel! Nice and dark, poor head retention but it laces nicely throughout the beer and for the duration of the tasting. It tastes strongly and evenly of delicious dark malt, cocoa, its soo good. It is so perfectly balanced and smooth it is amazing! It seems to go down your gullet as if it was pergectly balanced for taste and to coat the your mouth with flavout as it goes down. Very, very nice. I should have this on hand all the time, except it would spoil me for stout.

Bottled. Pitch black coloured. Light brown dense head. Chocolate, sweetness, light roast, light spice and light fruits in the nose. Flavour is toffeeish, chocolaty, sweet, milky, spicy and swweeeeeeeeeeet. I¨m half drunk, but who cares. Medium to full bodied. Ends on a roasty milky floral bla bla bla end. NIce

11.2 oz bottle as "Aphrodite." Definitely drink this one at cellar temp as opposed to out of the fridge. Pours nearly pitch with a very creamy and dense dark khaki head. Malted milk balls initially on the nose. Toasty vanilla bean. Chocolate milk. Well roasted (but far from charred) malt. Milk chocolate and the vanilla meld fairly seamlessly. Roasty malt, vanilla, chocolate and a bit of coffee on the tongue. Milk chocolate with just the faintest earthy hop bitterness. Plenty of flavor for being only 6,5%. Creamy body. Nice texture with low carbonation. Finishes with a slightly ashy astringent bitterness. Well done beer, albeit not my favorite style of beer. I’d love to try this one on nitro at the pub.

12 oz bottle courtesy of Dakine. Thanks. Pours an opaque black color with a small tan head that soon dissipates. The aroma is moderate in strength with sweet roasted malts and light cocoa. The flavor is a big blast of complex chocolates, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, cocoa, mocha and biter chocolate on the back end. The mouth feel is a bit uneven starting thinner than I’d prefer, but building to a nice malty conclusion. The finish is long and dry with lingering biter-sweet chocolates. Overall: A very tasty concoction, must get more.

Bottle. Pours black with a very thick and frothy tan head, dear god this is sticky stuff - possibly the best lacing I have ever seen. Nose is gorgeous chocolate, but not so overt that it smacks you in the face, you have to look for it a bit. Chocolate is joined by coffee, ash, vanilla perfume, and toasted marshmallow, though I for one am not getting graham crackers. Coffee and bitter chocolate, plus sweet vanilla bean, gives you a huge rich mouthfeel without being overwhelmingly bitter or boozy. VERY well done.

Pours thick black with tan head, which dissipates quickly- nothing too special. Tons of roasted coffee in the nose, accompanied by roasted malt, chocolate, vanilla, and graham cracker (sorry i have to jack that sentiment but it’s spot on). Extremely smooth and creamy, loaded with sweet vanilla and chocolate up front before settling into slightly bitter roasted coffee and toasted malt notes. Unreal combination.

Pours inky, oily black with nice lacing and a brown, short-lived head. Smells of chocolate, coffee, marshmellow, and toasted... something. Tastes of chocolate, graham cracker, toasted marshmellow... mmm, s’mores.... and vanilla. Has a really odd mouthfeel, almost foamy, like cool whip or how i’d imagine shaving cream would feel if you ate it. Very big and in-your-face, this beer is f***in ace.

Very dark chocolate black with a nice fine lighter tan head. Lots of chocolate in the aroma, there’s a bit of a roast/burnt note also. The body on this thing is interesting, amazing? It’s dense but not thick, not sticky, it’s really very interesting, not something I think I have experienced before. Again lots of chocolate with a hint of vanilla to round it out, the roast is there again. The finish is dry...well, not dry...I’m not sure how to describe it, kind of like that feeling you have if you eat bakers chocolate. The flavor lingers a bit even though it’s not really coating. At first I feel like this isn’t really anything special but it is amazingly tasty and very, very interesting. Deceptively awesome?
