Commercial Description:
Black ale with aromas and flavours of vanilla, dark chocolate, bourbon and roasted malt. The vanilla and cocoa marry nicely, without out-competing each other, to produce a surprisingly well balanced beer. This beer is mildly hoppy, but the cocoa introduces a touch of bitterness. Its colour may be intimidating, but it is a very smooth beer within reach of most beer drinkers. This highly appreciated dessert beer is brewed with organic fair-trade cocoa and first rate vanilla beans.

Bottle. Black body with a medium beige head. Roasted aroma with some chocolate and coffee. Flavour is at first coffee then comes the sweetness from the cocoa and light vanilla. Medium bodied. Lovely finish with the sweet cocoa mixed with the bitter roasted malt.

Bottle at home. Black coloured with a medium sized beige head. Sweet and roasted aroma of dark chocolate, liquorice, cocoa powder and vanilla. Sweet and roasted flavour of dark chocolate and vanilla with notes of cocoa powder and liquorice. Roasted finish. Medium bodied. The vanilla is a bit too dominating.

Bottle, many thanks to Gunhaver for sharing. Poured pitch black almost zero head. Nose is cocoa, dark fruit, and coffee. Medium bodied, very smooth with mild carbonation. Flavor is strong cocoa, fruity hops, coffee, and a touch of vanilla. Very well balanced and mild. Finish is roasted with lots more cocoa. Very tasty beer!

Courtesy of THE Gunhaver, thanks man, I’ve been looking forward to trying this. Pours very dark with amber edges and thin tan head. The aroma is roasty, some coffee, a touch of caramel and a thin layer of earthiness. The mouth is rich but doesn’t head all the way to velvety. It has loads of tasty malt flavors to go along with coffee, creamy caramel, blunted burnt malts, a modest level of fudge brownie and soft spice notes way in the background. Great mix of flavor here creating a soothing rich balance.

Bottle from Radiomgb, thanks! Almost black and opague. Roast, vanilla and chocolate in the aroma. Malty sweet flavor with vanilla, pear and chocolate. Some roastbitterness in the finish. Luscious and very drinkable. Cacao in the aftertaste. Only a bit too simple to get a 4+.

Bottle from ericandersnavy. Thanks man! Pours really dark with a slight tan head. Really rich dark toast aroma. Near full bodied with creamy carbonation. Flavor is smokey, toasty malt and chocolate. It is like candy, except it’s not all that sweet. Seems pretty well balanced. There’s a strange pervading flavor - think it’s vanilla. Not a problem. Whatever it is, it blends in well. Very nice. Finishes towards chocolate.

Wow. finally getting to try this, and from a bottle no less! Smokey chocolatey, peaty, a hint of malty undertones. Nice.
