Commercial Description:
Black ale with aromas and flavours of vanilla, dark chocolate, bourbon and roasted malt. The vanilla and cocoa marry nicely, without out-competing each other, to produce a surprisingly well balanced beer. This beer is mildly hoppy, but the cocoa introduces a touch of bitterness. Its colour may be intimidating, but it is a very smooth beer within reach of most beer drinkers. This highly appreciated dessert beer is brewed with organic fair-trade cocoa and first rate vanilla beans.

Pour black with a big brown head. Big aroma of vanilla and coffee. Vanilla lead to a bitter coffee finish. The aroma of this beer is awesome. Been waiting for this beer for along time.

Bottle from a 6 pack courtesy of Jadoreblanche. A deep motor oil pour with a gorgeous billowing froth of mocha head. Excellent lace. Nose is a blast of vanilla and dark chocolate, with roast malts and cocoa nibs. The flavour is great. Lots of dark chocolate with an upfront vanilla profile that really works well with the chocolate aspect. A bit of coffee with roasted malts and some cafe mocha. Creamy and very drinkable. Medium body is missing a little something mid palate, but only a minor detraction to this wonderful stout. Thankfully we have 5 more.

Draught at ’Mondial de la Biere 2009’, Montréal, QC. Finally I get to have this legendary beer! Pours a beautiful cascading brown-black with a large lasting creamy tan head and nice lacing -- looks perfect. Aroma’s a bit mild but lovely: Lightly roasted malt, vanilla and milk chocolate. Delicious flavour of roasted malt, coffee, vanilla and cream. Nice bitter finish. Medium bodied, creamy mouthfeel. As good as I expected, an amazing Stout!

[bottle] At last.. [I’ve waited so damn long to try this beer-- I’ve traveled 4+ hours to the pub only to miss it by a single day] Pours a nice black color, with a creamy coffee-colored head. Aroma is sweet milk chocolate and plenty of vanilla. Flavors are on the border of milkshake territory, but in the most delicious way possible. Huge roasted malt flavors, with plenty of chocolate malt and slight caramel sweetness. Overall, this beer is on the sweet side of things, but still really shines with the blend of chocolate and vanilla flavors. Very well done, and for me, well worth the wait!

courtesy of tpd975, thanks Greg for sharing this beer. pours black, beige/mocha like head. Aroma is indeed a real aphrodisiaque, lots of vanilla goodnesss. Usually I am used to a more subtle vanilla, but this time it just adds to the complexity. Some chocolate malts, cacao comes out with hints of coffee. Taste, pure vanilla, very enjoyable, not overdone. Light hints of chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, ends with a faint bitterness. As Greg mentioned, we tasted the beer with mocha chocolate I brought back from Belgium and it was divinely good. Not much else to say, it’s tasty, love the vanilla and how it blends in with everything else.
