COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black ale with aromas and flavours of vanilla, dark chocolate, bourbon and roasted malt. The vanilla and cocoa marry nicely, without out-competing each other, to produce a surprisingly well balanced beer. This beer is mildly hoppy, but the cocoa introduces a touch of bitterness. Its colour may be intimidating, but it is a very smooth beer within reach of most beer drinkers. This highly appreciated dessert beer is brewed with organic fair-trade cocoa and first rate vanilla beans.

Label is a bit messy so I have no idea how old this is. Black with a dark brown tone when looked upon in a light. Cocoa is dominant in the aroma, slight whisker of vanilla, coffee and dark chocolate. Bitter when it hits the tongue, huge sense of coffee when it hits the mouth. Finish is medium bitter, a bit on the dry side. Very pleasantly surprised just how far away from sweet this is. This is very good considering it is quite small in abv.

Bottle. Wow this is good! super smooth body with perfectly balanced roast flavours. The additives work so well in this. Up there with the Peche Mortel.

Might be the best stout on the planet. Pefect balance between dark malt vanilla and chocolate.

Pours jet black into a tulip glass with a nice 2 finger coffee head that slowly dissipates. Incredible aromas of vanilla and mocha coffee. The vanilla is very upfront in the taste, balanced extremely well with the coffee and chocolate flavours. Great balance of sweet and bitter/dry too. Nice full body for a supposed non-imperial stout. Magnificent beer that I find myself coming back to time and again.

After careful consideration, I concluded that drinking this beer with a cold is a dumb idea. I can smell the cocoa but it loses it’s complexity. Picked up the coffee dryness, full body, and warm vanilla. No fruit or bourbon. I’m going to have to try this again.

Bottle. Pours hazy black with tan head Nose is roasty dark malt, cacao, vanilla, molasses, hops. Tastes very complex, with notes of roasty dark malt, cacao, dark choc, hops, and a dense finish. This is an incredible stout.

Bottle at Moeder Lambic. Shared with Mathieu87. APPEARANCE: black beer, small unstable beige head. NOSE: chocolate, coffee, lots of vanilla. TASTE: chocolate, lots of vanilla, not completely balanced, but nice for it’s ABV. Has lots and lots of taste!

This is a great beer and the way the flavors interact and marry is something to marvel. Great aromas of coffee, vanilla, roasted malt and some chocolate. As good as the aroma is, the taste really shines. A slight hop bitterness welcomes the sip, which leads to the creamy vanilla and chocolate, each in balance. Coffee kicks in midway through the sip and the carbonation lifts it all welcoming another fantastic return.
