COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black ale with aromas and flavours of vanilla, dark chocolate, bourbon and roasted malt. The vanilla and cocoa marry nicely, without out-competing each other, to produce a surprisingly well balanced beer. This beer is mildly hoppy, but the cocoa introduces a touch of bitterness. Its colour may be intimidating, but it is a very smooth beer within reach of most beer drinkers. This highly appreciated dessert beer is brewed with organic fair-trade cocoa and first rate vanilla beans.

Bottle/12 - Poured a very dark black/brown in color with a small thick-bodied tan head that settled to a thin covering over the beer. Really nice lacing. Aroma is of dark chocolate, vanilla and cocoa powder. Flavor is very chocolate with a nice amount of vanilla. Some hop bitterness, but not much of their flavor. Finish is lingering, chocolaty and slightly bitter with a bit of astringency. Really nice... don’t drink this one too cold as you’ll miss much of the flavor!!

Traded bottle, date unknown but I’d guess I’ve easily had it over a year or more. Nice dark brown pour with a foamy tan head that settles with nice lacing. Pretty nice aroma of sweet milk chocolate, vanilla and a hint of dark roasted malt. Velvety smooth mouthfeel. So easy drinking it could become addictive quickly.

Bouteille 341mL. Brune foncee, mousse legere. Nez de fumee, noix de coco, cacao et vanille. Cremeuse en bouche avec des saveurs de moka, chocolat noir et legere vanille. Bien fait, mais pas mon genre.

Chocolate, malts and a hard to describe slight spiciness in aroma and flavor in this ale. The ales from this brewery are always unique and usually very good, this one doesn’t disappoint.

November, 2011 ;6.5% abv, 341 mL bottle, BBD: I’ve been told 2 years from production, which was January, 2011, refrigerated, pint glass. Old Rate. Aroma of dark rum with roasty cocoa, and sweet molasses and vanilla. Pours a black with a brown head which is fairly thin, 0.5 cm and which is very silky. Very complex taste. Vanilla hits very quickly among sipping and seems to disappear with the bitter mixture of roasty dark chocolate and coffee, almost smokey. Almost viscous with a very mild carbonation. FInishes with a strong cocoa bitterness. I wish it was a little creamier. Strong flavours which are hard to decipher if unready (me). Glad I have a couple more bottles.
