Black ale with aromas and flavours of vanilla, dark chocolate, bourbon and roasted malt. The vanilla and cocoa marry nicely, without out-competing each other, to produce a surprisingly well balanced beer. This beer is mildly hoppy, but the cocoa introduces a touch of bitterness. Its colour may be intimidating, but it is a very smooth beer within reach of most beer drinkers. This highly appreciated dessert beer is brewed with organic fair-trade cocoa and first rate vanilla beans.

Aroma: Chocolate, cocoa and vanilla with a bit of smoky notes. Appearance: Dark, black and opaque with no sheen. Nice brown head, long lasting but with no lacing. Taste: Attack is very chocolate and cocoa. (of course...they were added) Mouthfeel is very mild and smooth despite the presence of cocoa. Finish is introducing a nice long lasting bitterness. A very chocolaty stout. The presence of vanilla is certainly smoothening the bitterness. For those who like chocolate stouts that’s the one to try.

Roasted barley, milk chocolate, coffee, some earth, and the mildest hop fruitiness in the aroma, along with slight, woody vanilla. The mouthfeel is medium in viscosity and well-carbonated. The taste leans roasty bitter, with mild caramely and vanilla flavors overwhelmed by the earthy, chocolatey notes. Very good.

11.5 oz bottle poured into a Bruery tulip. Labeled as Aphrodite. Batch code 62 or 63, bought in mid-2014. Dark brownish black with a finger of tan head. Aromas of cocoa, dark chocolate, bits of vanilla. Tastes of dark chocolate, coffee, light vanilla. Medium-full body with a dry finish. Amazing flavors especially for under 7% ABV.

12oz bottle poured into a tulip. The aroma is milky with rich chocolate and a smokiness. The beer is dark and nearly opaque with a red black hue and a tan, dense fizz head that has onlylight retention and a mild lace. The taste is a medium high, chocolate bittersweet blend. The beer is slick with fuzzy carbonation and a full body with a smokey blend of chocolate and milk. The smokiness picks up for a brief cresendo at the finish which turn to a mild herb cleanliness, followed by vanilla and baker’s chocolate. The aftertaste is mild and nearly clean with light vanilla bean and chocolate cookie character.

Oh my god, oh my god. Amazing cocoa vanilla nose. Nice thick body for a 6.5% stout. So complex. French Canadians nailed this. It almost makes up for Celine Dion.

Tap at... forgot where in Toronto. Near black with tan head, exceptional retention and lacing. The nose... ooh, not at all the fulsome mawkish aroma I was expecting, it’s instead really roasty, really chocolaty (in a subtle, bitter chocolate kind of way). Extremely full, yet not ovely sweet. Spicy (ryeish) character coupled with cocoa and chocolate sweetness. Not much of vanilla. The spiciness gets kinda hot even. So soft, smooth, velvety. Great stuff!
