Divine! VeloVampire (400), Parkdale, Toronto, Ontario, Canada Nov 4, 2007 On tap at the brewpub - oh god, I can’t believe how amazing this beer is. Appeared the perfect shade of pure obsidian - blacker than black, none more black - with the perfect tan head. Aroma is totally awesome - big notes of roasted malt, dry cocoa powder, sweet vanilla and some plum. Flavour much the same along with some whiskey and a slightly lactic finish. Really robust and thick, something that I find lacking in a lot of "stouts". Really big body here. Perfect. Palate is wonderful with chocolate at the front of the mouth that segues into a sweet vanilla and there’s a touch of warming alcohol in the throat. Perfect. That’s a lot of "perfects" and this one nearly is..... DYCSoccer17 (2040), Davis, California, USA Feb 26, 2005 Tap. Moan and Dove Peche Mortel unveiling. To be quite honest, this beer stole the show. This beer showed up the Peche Mortel, which is not an easy feat. Gorgeous sweet sugary vanilla aroma with hints of chocolate. This thing smells amazing. Yummy. Pitch black with a long-standing light tan head. The head is much more durable than the Peche Mortel. Sweet, chocolatey, vanilla notes. Roasts are present as well. Flavor of a roasted chocolate milk with a twist of vanilla. No alcohol detected. This is extremely satisfying and perhaps the best beer I have ever experienced. Great mouthfeel, silky, and amazingly drinkable. I have trouble finding fault with this beer. CapFlu (3340), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Jun 9, 2003 Updated: Nov 1, 2006(Draught) Creamy brown head and opaque body. Chocolate, vanilla and marshmallow aroma. A chocolate milkshake with expensive vanilla ice cream and thick 35% MF whipping cream. Finishes with a vanilla flavour so smooth that you slide right out of your clothes onto the naked marble floor. My ’Best of Show’ for Le 10e Mondial de la Biere in Montreal. Absolutely to die for... Brock_Landers (723), Panama City, Florida, USA Apr 7, 2005 Many thanks to my buddy Claude Turcotte for bringing this one back from his mother land....and I only had to hint one time. Pours a very deep dark opaque black with a creamy brown head. Aroma is big chocolate, vanilla and marshmellow sweet...wow. I figured I’d like it, but wow. The taste is delicious vanilla, cocoa, and a restrained bitterness. Finishes with a vanilla flavour so smooth and bittersweet that I was sad to reach the end. Surprisingly awesome. I’ve got to maintain my Canadian connection!
