COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer style was created in the late 1990’s by some breweries on the west coast of the United States, and most notably by Rogue. It’s an extreme version of the American IPA. It’s a beer with strong amber hues and dominating hop flavours and tastes. It is however well balanced through the presence of a combination of malts. This beer is usually dry hopped, a tradition that is adhered to by Dieu du Ciel!. The bouquet of the beer consists of floral hops. In the mouth, the bitterness is quite strong, without being extreme, and the alcohol makes its presence known, without being domineering. The aftertaste is dry and less syrupy than a barley wine. Thus, it is a very complex and bitter beer, but always well balanced.

Amber with a fine white head. Mild grassy hop aromas with hints of brown sugar. Medium body, lots of caramel malts in there, sweet, hops is always second in this brew that finishes overly sweet for the style. A bit sticky, with hints of metal in the mouthfeel. I want more hops in there!!!

Draft with Andrew poured at the Festival, MA. Pours a clear, golden body with small white lacing. Aroma is fruity malts, grass, light floral character and some spice. Mouthfeel is medium with notes of sweet, fruity hops, grass, sweet malt backbone and a nice bitter presence.

Clear golden orange pour with small off white head. Aroma of caramel, pine, floral hops and orange. Taste of caramel, honey, toffee, orange peel, and a hop presence. Medium bodied with perfect carbonation. Very sweet which masks the bitter hop finish. Very enjoyable.

Bottle. Pours clear golden orange with tiny dappled head. Aroma of resin, tangerine, wood varnish, floral, grass. Flavour is very similar with lots of candy sweetness. Medium bodied, way too sweet. Cloying and boozy.

341mL bottle, pours a pretty clear copper orange with a small white head. Aroma is full of floral hops, a bit of grassy notes, backed by a generous portion of cracker / biscuity malt. Flavour is dominated by candied sugar, caramel malt sweetness, and finally some floral hops. Finishes semi-bitter and quite sweet, with some alcohol notes. Subpar for the style, and certainly for Dieu du Ciel.

Pour out of 12 oz bottle, thanks Aaron! Pour is clear orange with fluffy white head, aroma has notes of old aged hops with biscuit, caramel, toffee, hints of grass and pine but more orange notes, finishing fairly sweet. Taste is sweet malts, orange, some caramel, finishing fairly sweet, slight bitterness but not much. Nice, but its old.

Bottle @ Matt’s house, courtesy of pushkinwow. Well, this has been on a Fedex truck for over three weeks, so it may be fucked. Fairly hazy, orangish appearance with an off white head. Pretty dull, a bit boozy, rich malty, moderate caramel, light citrusy aroma. Fairly dull hoppy, toasty malty, light caramel, earthy, floral flavor. Too bad but it’s fucked now.

A very good IIPA. It shows the herbal caracteristics of the hops. Very interesting to taste. The bitterness is rash, but not extreme because of the malt presence. Very well balanced!
