This beer style was created in the late 1990’s by some breweries on the west coast of the United States, and most notably by Rogue. It’s an extreme version of the American IPA. It’s a beer with strong amber hues and dominating hop flavours and tastes. It is however well balanced through the presence of a combination of malts. This beer is usually dry hopped, a tradition that is adhered to by Dieu du Ciel!. The bouquet of the beer consists of floral hops. In the mouth, the bitterness is quite strong, without being extreme, and the alcohol makes its presence known, without being domineering. The aftertaste is dry and less syrupy than a barley wine. Thus, it is a very complex and bitter beer, but always well balanced.

Bottle from LCBO, Toronto. Pours clear orangey-yellow, off-white head. Fades. Nose: honey, mild booziness, dried apricot and orange. Taste follows these scents. Very well balanced and pleasant carbonation. Some toffee stickiness and resinous finish. Quite drinkable for its 9% ABV.

Bottle at Beer Revolution. My first super hoppy DDC beer. Clear golden pour with a bubbly white foam, spotty lacing. Citrusy sweet, mild floral hops on the nose.. Mouthfeel crisp, mild alcohol warmth, low-medium carbonation. Taste is sweet orangey lemony notes with the spicy tang and hoppy bite lingers into the finish. Well balanced for 9%. Superb

light amber pour with a nice sized off white head. Aroma of caramel and floral hop notes. Huge alcohol notes on this. Honestly, not much going on really and I expected more from a Dieu Du Ciel beer. Still, not bad.

Bottle. Pours an amber colour. Nice, fresh grassy aroma. Tastes the same - grassy, citrusy with a sweet chewy boozy thing happening too. It's very well balanced the booze doesn't take over. Really enjoyable. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Beautiful hazy amber color with medium sized head. Nice note of malt and caramel, suggesting sweetness, a hint of cereals, and mild but quality hops. Good malt flavor, with a good body structure but a lean and drinkable mouthfeel; light toffee and caramel complete the profile; bold bitterness level, yet balanced by the moderate sweetness, carrying some fruits and resins from the hops.
Well balanced, easy to drink at this magnitude, very good.

Pours a nearly clear auburn with a small, half finger white head that fades. Big alcohol legs. Smells faintly of hops, fruits and alcohol. Almost like a Trappist beer with a bit of hops. Taste is of slight hops and a bit of spice. Well Balanced. Lower carbonation with a smooth texture. Interesting. A good beer worth a try!

(bottle) clear rich amber colour with a medium tall white head; aromas of stewed fruit,, lychees, sweet fruit; rich and balanced flavour with a long medium bitter finish; uncommonly well balanced for the style
