This is, like, HOW old? Never mind, it smells fine as the puffy tan head fills 1/2 the chalice over a deep amber coat showing clear highlights of gold. nice gentle sweet grain smell, a hint of snarky herb and citrus. Taste long fine flavorful noble hops over delicious flavors of nuts, toffee and fruit. Nice old beer with no flaws.

12oz bottle pours a hazy brown with a cloudy, white head. Nice malty nose, bready, light hops, fairly approachable. Flavor is sweet, malty, a little brown sugar, a touch of cookie dough. Medium bodied, sweet finish.

355mL courtesy of CaptainCougar. Pour is a clear, light amber with not much of a head- some tan bubbles wafting around. Aroma is amazing: big oak, cedar, wet forest, caramel, black peppercorn. Taste is dry cedar, spicy oak, dry cinnamon, herbal. Light-bodied though and quite refreshing. A nice surprise.

Pours with a big, creamy head. Nice nutty aroma with a hint of green olives. Light oxidation - showing its age a bit. Dry flavor, light vegetal notes with hints of raw nuts.

341ml bottle. Clear deep amber with a HUGE foamy-creamy tan head. Aroma is mostly lightly toasty cereal grain with a hint of floral nuttiness - dry and not too sweet. The taste follows - mostly grain, with mild dry roast, not much alcohol. Light body, a bit still, slightly sweet upfront, leaves a fresh-milled bread-makers’ grain aftertaste. Just okay.

Bottle: Poured a deep brown color ale with a generous foamy head with surprisingly good retention and good lacing. Aroma of well balanced caramel malt with just enough sweetness and some light dry English hops as well. Taste is also a well balance mix between some rich caramel malt with just enough sweetness and some dominant English hops (which are sadly on the decline since this is not as fresh as it once was). Well made for a style that doesn’t offer it fair share of surprise.

Clear rust in colour with a long lasting medium sized tan head, good lacing. The aroma is quite hoppy, juicy, some pine, caramel malts. The flavour is of citrus hops, oranges, pine forest, lots of caramel malt sweetness, moderate bitterness. Hoppy bitter mouthfeel, medium body, moderate carbonation. Finishes long, hoppy, quite bitter and dry.

A big beer for being 5%, seems larger then that. Good balance and excellent mouthfeel and drinkability.

341ml bottle purchased at Dépanneur Rahman in Montreal, Quebec.

Opened on October 18, 2009.

Brewed for festival, September 1, 2008.
