Corne du diable (French for "Horn of the devil") is a contemporary interpretation of the classic English India Pale Ale. This new style, born on the west coast of North America, is characterized by stronger and hoppier beers. The result is a red ale expressing caramel flavours coming from the malt, sharp bitterness and powerful hop aromas, thanks to dry hopping.

UPDATED: JAN 15, 2016 From a bottle. Dark red, sharp bite. Not overly flavorful but you can taste caramel flavors. Not too happy in a bad way.

341 ml bottle from a dépanneur in Gatineau.

Appearance: Pours an opaque dark brown with a bit of tanish head.

Aroma: Pine, grapefruit, melon.

Flavours: Pine, grapefruit, melon, lemon, biscuit.

Mouthfeel: Rich with average carbonation.

Overall: Really nice IPA with lots of the usual pine and grapefruit but it also has some malt biscuit coming through.

The malt in this smells and tastes not very good. It’s old and sweet and unpleasant. It’s too bitter and the red ale aspect just makes it less flavorful and less appealing.

Pours a very short beige head with deep hops and iron aromas. Clear Amber colored body. Balance is more achieved than with rescousse, with similar roasted grain flavors but compensated with high bitterness and hops. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle at Get Well in Toronto. Bottled 1/2 year ago. Opaque dark orange with a coppery shade. Head’s smallish, off-white. Really malty, jammy, marmalady, caramelly on the nose. Strangely, I get some anise. Sweet caramelly flavour with leafy, herby notes. Crisp carbonation, somewhat aggressive even. Would’ve guessed it was rye, but it’s not. Fruity. Somewhat thin in the mouth. The anise continues in the flavour. A pretty disappointing brew, perhaps it was too old... I’m pretty sure I’ll have it again one day to make sure.

Poured from bottle. Nice citrus aroma. Pours a cloudy amber that settles into clear. Light to medium bitter taste. Medium body, sticky texture, with a slightly bitter finish. A nice west coast style IPA.

Bottle at home from brewdog online, 1yr old
hazy dark amber, resinous and dank, touch butterscotch and pine needles. Light carbonation, caramel, pithy piney, bitter, sweet, slightly soapy in finish.
