Commercial Description:
Corne du diable (French for "Horn of the devil") is a contemporary interpretation of the classic English India Pale Ale. This new style, born on the west coast of North America, is characterized by stronger and hoppier beers. The result is a red ale expressing caramel flavours coming from the malt, sharp bitterness and powerful hop aromas, thanks to dry hopping.

Location: 11.5 oz bottle from State Line, 8/30/09

Aroma: Powerful nose of juicy citrus fruit hops and resin
Appearance: Hazy caramel color, foamy off-white head, and leaves a decent amount of lace
Flavor: Sweet matly flavor with balancing from a huge hop backing, a well made IPA
Palate: Dry finish, creamy mouthfeel, medium body, long finish, and nice all the way down
Overall Impression: My second beer from Dieu du Ciel, and they are 2 for 2 for sure! Between these guys and Unibroue I guess I need to drink more Canadian beer... Anyway, as for this one, I’m impressed! This is a beer I could drink a lot of, and at 6.5% I probably really could drink a lot of it. A very tasty brew for sure, well down by our neighbors to the north.

Pours a cloudy, very dark amber/ chestnut brown color with a HUGE foamy tan head that settles into a lacing that lasts throughout. Malty aroma with a floral hop presence. Very well-balanced with a nice malt bacbone countering the bitter hops. Very hoppy up-front with some chocolate, carmel maltiness and a dry, bitter hop finis

341 ml bottle from Premier in Halifax. Pours a murky brown/gold with moderate, slightly off-white head. Assertive hoppy nose (citrus and pine) with nice caramel malt backing for sweetness. Malt profile readily apparent in flavour leading to fruity hops. Medium+ body, fine carbonation, bitter finish, sticky mouthfeel. Quite nice.

The look of this beer is range but with a slight haze to it. This beer pours a nice and creamy head. The initial flavor a mixture of hoppy bitterness you expect from a typical california ipa with some slight caramel. The caramel becomes more apparent on the aftertaste. This creates a nice mixture that keeps the beer from being too bitter or too sweet. The taste is quite exceptional, mostly due to how well it was balanced out. I’ll admit I absolutely love IPAs so my rating might be a bit skewed.

Pours a very hazy reddish orange with a two finger creamy yellow head.Smells a little oxidized, sweet caramel malt, citrus rind, past its prime in the aroma. Flavor shows the same, sweet, citrus rind bitterness, oxidation, some alcohol, a tad earthy. Mild carbonation.

A Mes rate. Bottle drunk at the Rake thanks to Rudiger.
Amber gold with a thin off white head. Big resinous hoppy nose with some slight ethanol and a bit of a peppery sting at the top. Really good nose. Sadly the flavour is nothing like as good. All the same stuff is there that made the aroma so great but there are some definite notes of card and vegetables. All I can say is that this doesn’t seem to have bottled too well. It’s like a bad English bottle conditioned beer. Such a same. I’m sure this would be spectacular on draught but right now, especially following the exceptional aroma, I feel rather let down. Superb bitter finish brings it back, just but I can’t help but feel this has so much more to give.
