Commercial Description:
Corne du diable (French for "Horn of the devil") is a contemporary interpretation of the classic English India Pale Ale. This new style, born on the west coast of North America, is characterized by stronger and hoppier beers. The result is a red ale expressing caramel flavours coming from the malt, sharp bitterness and powerful hop aromas, thanks to dry hopping.

Bottle from Dépanneur Rahman. Pours a lightly hazy crimson brown amber with a medium large tanned beige head that fades down to lace steadily. Light citrus and pine hops, a ton of malt, and a touch of barleywine style decomposing fruit…no way to judge the age on this… I’ve had it about 3 months (whoops), but it could have been sitting in the store for days, or a year… no way to tell. Flavor is malty. Medium bodied. Finishes with a big grapefruit note, and a bit more barleywine style fruit. Tasty, but I’d really like to try it fresh on tap. Next trip perhaps.

341ml brown bottle. Orange colour, full creamy white head, leaves minimal lacing. Pine and citrus aroma. Hop forward, a mix of sweet orange and grapefruit bitterness, some floral notes, minimal malt character. Long finish as well with lingering grapefruit character. Medium body, medium carbonation.

11.5 oz bottle. Cloudy amber with a tan head. Odd nose - citrusy and earthy, peach and caramel. The peach and earth take over in the flavor - tasty but strange.

Zipps tasting, Fall 2008. Hop aroma and flavor. Citrus and malt base. The hops are definitely dominant. Flavor has citrus, grapefruit and orange, and some pine, almost sweet, candy-like flowers.

Pours a hazy burnt orange with a thick and sticky tan coloured head. Aroma is intensely hoppy. Pine and citrus up front and in the back caramel. Definite dry hopping. Tastes of malt, pine, grapefruit, caramel, oranges, and a nice rolling bitterness. Mouth feel is decent. Nice IPA.

Aroma of malty, piney. Pours a cloudy orange, nice head. Caramel malty backbone. Floral notes, burnt fruit, hoppy but not overpowering. Just general all-around tastiness. You try to put your finger on what you like about it, but your glass is empty and you’re already pouring another one.
