COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Corne du diable (French for "Horn of the devil") is a contemporary interpretation of the classic English India Pale Ale. This new style, born on the west coast of North America, is characterized by stronger and hoppier beers. The result is a red ale expressing caramel flavours coming from the malt, sharp bitterness and powerful hop aromas, thanks to dry hopping.

Pours a cloudy copper-amber with a dense khaki head that settles slowly to a thick ring and leaves substantial lacing. Nose involves a healthy dose of caramel, dark fruits and sugars, some orange-citrus and earthy herbal (tea leaves) notes. Taste is not nearly as sweet as the nose leads on; it’s actually quite bitter. Fuller but not too heavy bodied, creamy, softer carb, somewhat grainy, with an intensely bitter finish. Really nice brew. Definitely on the malty side, but to style on the bitterness.

From Craftissimo. Warm translucent brown with small creamy off-white head and loads of sudsy lacing. Smells very malty. Toasted cereal, straw, spice, bit of pear, toffee. Taste is spicy malt, moderate bitterness, dry bitter finish. Something about it tastes a little musty and unfresh. Body is medium and very fizzy. Nice aroma but taste is only so-so. Very malty for an IPA.

Bottle from Bottledog in London at home. Dark copper pour with minimal but sticky head. Aroma is very red ale - sweet maltiness but with spicy and then floral hops. Taste is a bit unusual - very deeply bitter but balanced by red ale-esque ("copper"-tasting) maltiness. Very malty, actually. Palate is normal with a strongish carbonation. Dry, slightly sweet finish. Solid but not great.

Half from brewdog bar, sheffield. Deep dark amber red ale with a lacy creamy white head. Aroma of malty raisins and earthy hops. Taste is malty malts and hoppy hops. Slight prickle and medium body.

Aroma is mostly citrus notes, lots of floral hops. Flavour is bitter, some very concentrated pinapple taste which took the foreground. Medium carbonation and body. Nice, though a little uni-dimensional.

341ml bottle served in a tulip glass. A: First of all, perfect beer art. Dieu du Ciel makes, IMHO, the most beautiful beer labels ever! Pours a dark amber clear color forming a medium, creamy and beige head. Medium to low retention and lots of lacings left S: Very sweet caramel in the nose. Candy sugar and flowery and pine hops. Fruity with notes of pineapple and grapefruit T: Follows the nose. A slightly sweet upfront with strong notes of caramel malts and toffee. Nice yeasts which are somehow, a bit Belgian. Hoppy bitterness is, however, quite stingy and dry. Good bitterness. Again, an American IPA with a little touch of Belgian IPA M: Absolutely smooth in the mouth, a strong quality of Dieu du Ciel. Medium body and carbonation with a persistent caramel malts and piny hoppy aftertaste O: Excellent drinkability. Great American/Belgian/Canadian IPA :) [ BA Review @ 3/23/2013 ]

341ml bottle from Brewdog online store. Clear deep brown orangey red-amber colour, frothy beige foam head and aroma of caramel, fruity, orange marmalade, hoppy. Taste is malt caramel with earthy, honey, fruity, hop notes and citrus, orange, grapefruit bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry orangey woody bitter finish. Very drinkable.

Really interesting beer, looks like a half of British style IPA, and has some malt on the aroma, but then the hops push everything else aside, in US style IPA finish. The extra malt influence gives a lovely thick mouthfeel . This is a brewery to watch, clever beer geeks they are!

Guest draft at BrewDog, Birmingham. Dark IPA with plenty of flavour - bitter hops and malty grapefruit - and a long finish. I’d never heard of this brewery until tonight but now I’ve had two excellent ones.

LOTS of pine and grass in the aroma. thick, dark (for the style) body...not really pale per se. good flavor (more pine) not quite as delectable as the aroma, but well balanced."
