COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Corne du diable (French for "Horn of the devil") is a contemporary interpretation of the classic English India Pale Ale. This new style, born on the west coast of North America, is characterized by stronger and hoppier beers. The result is a red ale expressing caramel flavours coming from the malt, sharp bitterness and powerful hop aromas, thanks to dry hopping.

Pours a cloudy copper-amber with a dense khaki head that settles slowly to a thick ring and leaves substantial lacing. Nose involves a healthy dose of caramel, dark fruits and sugars, some orange-citrus and earthy herbal (tea leaves) notes. Taste is not nearly as sweet as the nose leads on; it’s actually quite bitter. Fuller but not too heavy bodied, creamy, softer carb, somewhat grainy, with an intensely bitter finish. Really nice brew. Definitely on the malty side, but to style on the bitterness.

Bouteille de 341 ml. Dégustée le 1er février 2009. Bière rousse tirant sur le brun. Mousse assez lorsque versée, col moyen, persistant. Peu effervescente.

Bottle from Discount in Waukesha, that likely was the same one I’d eyed 6-8 months ago. Pours a brownish orange with some carbonation and an off-white head leaving spots of lace. Aroma has sweet fruits, caramelly malts and some citrus. A bit of dead hoppiness. Taste is of sweet fruits, sweet caramel, some touches of sourness, biscuity malts, some earthiness and faint bitter grapefruit. Certainly attempting toward the classic "english" IPA. Medium bodied. Finishes mostly sweet, with some sourness & bitterness, and some length. Shrug, not great overall with components that were not well blended (due to age??). Only mildly a fan of the style.

341ml bottle from Saveur-Biere

Bottled ??/2013 (?) - Pours dark amber with a small white head. Aroma of sweet caramely malts, syrup, fruity hops, grass and citrus. Taste is malty, sweetish and fruity with some citrus, grass and toffee notes. Finish is sweet, malty and mildly fruity. Okay, quite malty English IPA.

2014 bottle to a tulip glass. Pours a cloudy brown-orange with virtually no head. The little that develops is off-white. Aroma is a deep, sweet malt smell with prunes and a little pine. Taste is very sweet with prunes, tea leaves, flower petals. Bitterness is mostly flowery with a touch of pine. The sweetness is almost cloying and doesn't work well with the bitterness. Full, slick mouthfeel that ends with a puckering quality. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

bottle from my mate Paul. Caramel, hops, herbs, tropical fruit. Medium sweet, with a long echoing bitter aftertaste that travels until deep into your throath, stays there, and makes a little dance. Nice enough IPA.

12 oz. bottle. Color is blonde amber color, thin ring of head. Aroma is light pine trees, caramel with toffee, and marmalade.

Flavor starts with pine needles, tangerine and toffee. Good balance of sweet caramel and pine hops. Dry texture with lingering pine bitterness. Dry texture with a nice body. Solid.
