Commercial Description:
Corne du diable (French for "Horn of the devil") is a contemporary interpretation of the classic English India Pale Ale. This new style, born on the west coast of North America, is characterized by stronger and hoppier beers. The result is a red ale expressing caramel flavours coming from the malt, sharp bitterness and powerful hop aromas, thanks to dry hopping.

Pours dark amber with ample fluffy head. Nice herbal, citrus, and earthy aromas, almost slightly spicey, with a nice caramel malt backing. Flavor contains English hops in abundance with a nice caramel-toffee base. Slightly biscuity with herbal and ctirus notes jumping out every so often and lingering throughout. A nice twist on the American IPA.

The burnt umber colored body was very cloudy, and was topped with a foamy two+ finger thick head. The aroma was peppery and citric (grapefruit), and felt quite bold. The taste was not quite as assertive as the aroma suggested. The hops supplied a spicy zest but not much bitterness, and the malts were not very sweet. Mouthfeel was creamy and smooth, and the aftertaste a bit woody and dry. This was a somewhat subtler and milder take on the style, but it was by no means bland or out of style.

Bottle; brought back from Maryland by my sister. Poured a browner than red, abuurn color with a smallish off white/khaki head. Aroma was heavy on caramel malt and earthy hop notes. Slight sweetness. Pretty good aroma. Fairly disappointing flavor; not bad, but expected a bit more based on the high ratings. Not exactly what I look for in an IPA. Very malt forward and focused; hops at times almost seem like an afterthought. Short finish. Just ok for me.

Bottle:   Reddish caramel, moderate frothy off-white head, few spots of lacing.   Hop oriented nose, a little on the dusty side.   Reminds me of a basement.   Strong hops on the tongue, yet not overly biting.   Seems rich, without being brash.   As it warms I get a bit more citrus out of it.   The nose picks up that powdered sugar aroma.   Moderate to full body and mouthfeel.   Could use a tad bit more malt, not that I think its weak, but based on the flavors I would have loved to see it a bit fuller.   Otherwise, more flavorful than many other beers that call themselves IPA.   Would like to try fresh on draught.

Bottle on 10/27/2009. Clear copper amber body with a large rocky off-white head. Sweet floral and slightly woody hop aroma on a caramel background. Slightly woody hop flavor, with some floral notes and a sweet caramel background. Medium body with moderate carbonation.

Bottle from Secret Santa. Nose is heavy on the toffee/caramel, with some woodiness and a little grapefruit. taste is malt-forward and yeasty to start, with a piney bitterness that lingers on the finish and coats the mouth. Not their best offering. Thanks, santa.

A very grapefruit bouquet with other citrus aromas. Quite pungent with some floral and pine notes. Strong floral and pine notes, with a smooth sipping malt body. Good IPA without an overpowering hop character, but instead a great fruity compliment.

Definitely not their best. Now this may be an old bottle, but there is almost no hop in this, and it tastes much more like a lite Barleywine. Pours a hazy amber with 3 mm of beige head. Aroma is caramel. Flavor is bitter, with notes of sweetness in there. DDC does much better with Belgian styles.

Bottle. Pours a deep dark reddish brown with a thick beige head. Hops, toffee, and smoke in the nose. Flavor is hoppy, with undertones of caramel and burnt wood. Very nice carbonation, easy to drink. Overall very good, has a unique element to it.
