SQNfan (591), Wheaton, Illinois, USA May 29, 2008 This was cloudy golden in color with a thick fluffy white head. Aromas are of florals, spice, herbs, citrus and yeast. In the mouth it is medium-bodied with a concentrated and crisp, yet rich, midpalate that fades to some dry bitterness on the finish. Vac (2389), San Diego, California, USA May 27, 2008 Bottle at tasting at Chris Fischer’s (from Liars Club) house. Pours with a gold body topped by a thin to medium thick head with a good amount of lacing. It’s slightly sweet yet bitter wtih notes of grass and some spices. Light to medium bodied and dry. 17thfloor (1403), Chicago, Illinois, USA May 27, 2008 Pours hazy orange with a large sudsy off-white froth... very foamy. Strong fruity, spicy, herbal aroma. Smells sweet and French. Bubbly but still smooth and creamy mouthful, slightly rough. Not as sweet as it smells. Some candy malt, sour funk, and lots of yeast in the flavor. The dry hopping is quite unique and works excellently with the yeast. Long peppery finish. Well balanced, and a very well made beer... just not enough going on to be great. Crosling (1854), Loveland, Colorado, USA May 25, 2008 Light golden color with a full, wispy head of foam. Authentic Belgian smell, some dough, light fruits, farmhouse character. Quite vibrant. Lots of taste, with expressive citrus and herbal hop notes, hints of fruits. Nice Belgian character as well. Very full bodied. An impressive brew. Davinci (295), Chicago, Illinois, USA May 22, 2008 Golden yellow pour with large rocky white head thick like meringue. Bubbles are large soda bubbles. Very sticky large lacing. Hops really shine through at first, very herbal almost peppery nobel type hop aroma. Below that there is a nice subtle fruity ester and maybe a hint of citrus followed by a faint alcohol note. I am quite impressed with the complexity in the nose. Wow the taste does not dissapoint. This one really wakes up the palate. Spicey tart and sweet all seem to exist nearly simultaneously. A nice bitter, spicey, herbal hop note leads the charge, followed quickly by a pleasant citrus note coupled with a mild sweetness. The whole thing ends up rolling towards the hops toward the end. This is very big yet well balanced. I agree with marcbe in that the bitter and tart characteristics blend like Orval or even a Westy blonde. Well done to say the least and way under-rated in my opinion. ratman197 (3139), Arvada, Colorado, USA May 22, 2008 Bottle poured a clear golden yellow with a lasting white head. Aromas of straw, honey, fruittiness, spice and light earthiness. Palate was light bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of straw, pears, light spice and a hint of earthiness with a smooth dry lingering bitter finish. marcbé (86), Trois-Rivières, Quebec, Canada May 21, 2008 Bottle, Cloudy pale straw color with creamy white head that create a lot lacing. Hop first, then yeast, malt and fruit. Strong hop flavor, citrus (grapefruit) and caramel. Reminds me of Orval which can only be good. beerinmarch (2781), Alabama, USA May 19, 2008 Pours cloudy yellow with a tall white head. Wit nose and flavor, citrus and coriander, crisp finish. Hops add a fruity floral nice and citrus flavor. Dry finish, very refreshing, spicy finish.
