beerbuzzmontreal (2747), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Sep 22, 2008 Cloudy, reddish amber pour with a thin light brown head. Intriguing aroma of anise, spices and toasted malt. Flavor of anise, spices, toasted malt and mild butterscotch. The body is light with an oily texture and gentle carbonation. Not one of DDC’s numerous shinning efforts. LadySusan (374), Ste-Therese, Quebec, Canada Sep 7, 2008 Taster at The Mondial de la biere 08 in Montreal. The color is copper with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet and malty. The taste is also swet of caramel and raisins , spicies and malt. Not bad for a Belgium strong ale but there is room for improvement. mabel (1673), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 8, 2008 [1421-20080530] Tap. A bit of fruity house yeast and tea in the aroma. Clear, amber brown body with a medium-lasting foamy off-white head. Weird heather flower yeast flavour like cold chamomile tea. Medium body is a little flat. Interesting to try.
(@ Dieu du Ciel!; Montreal, QC) Glouglouburp (2006), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jul 4, 2008 In short: A basic strong caramelized beer
How: Tap. A few samples at Mondial de la Bière 2008
The look: Almost clear copper body topped by a very small beige head
In long: Plenty of roasted caramelized malts, very little fruity notes if any, moderately sweet, some earthy notes, alcohol is present but not annoying, medium spiciness sensation (pepper, coriander, more…). Pleasant full bodied mouthfeel. In a blind-test I’m not even sure I would have called it a Belgian Ale. Felt like a well brewed but basic American Strong Ale. Strong, effective but rudimentary, this is a simple Double-Triple.

Alcohol Bomb. Copper body with light quickly receding head. Fruit and spice with yeast funk, barnyard candy sugar. This is a big belgian style beer with too much octane for my taste. Perhaps it could use some mellowing time.
