4.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
appearance is beautiful.thin white head and not much in the way of lacing.aroma is very sweet with maple, malt and citrus.flavor is malt and maple and incredible that this is 9.5 abv.this is truley one of the best scotch ales ive ever had and can be dangerous because its so delicious and can go down quick with the high abv.medium carbonationwith a creamy slick mouthfeel and has a sweet slightly bitter finish.normally i like my beers complex and this is not.its straight up maple and malt.if i blind tasted this i would have guessed an abbey double.this is absolutely delicious and you gotta try it.definitely going to one of my favorites

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Spuyten Duyvil, Brooklyn tap ($10): Pours dark brown with a brownish loose head. Aroma is wood, loads of dark fruity, a touch of booze, and, of course, sugar. Taste is rather sweet and woody. Not as much sweetness, especially that gross cloying kind, that is found in some Scotch ales. Loads of fruity fun. Hella malty, of course.

3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
If I’m reading the bottle code right, this was produced in January 2011. Pours an opaque auburn with a fair khaki head that settles to a ring and leaves some spotty lace. Nose involves lots of dark fruit, cherries, raisins, dates, figs, some clean orange notes, maple, butter rum, fruit cake, some suggestions of herbal hops, and some twizzlers. Really sweet, fairly bitter. Fuller bodied, soft carb, syrupy, with a lengthy surprisingly dry bitter and slightly tart finish. Complex, very malt driven, deep in character, pretty damn nice.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Deep bronze with a lasting pale beige head. Brooding aroma of dried fruits, dark sugars, hard spices. Sweet with layers of fruit and singed flavours. Maple registers as a woodiness to the sweetness at the end. Dries out very gently so that the finish lingers and the sweetness gradually gives way to wood and a lick of booze. Nice balance, didn’t find it cloying but wanted those malty and fruity flavours to open up a little more.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bigger than I expected... Nose has sweet maple, little orange and spice. Taste is big, robust malt supported by the maple that builds nicely. Slick body, nice length. lol. Great brew

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
The aromas were of caramel, chocolate, toffee, coffee, roasted malts and alcohol. The taste was a melange of the above...sweet, rich, satisfying. The mouthfeel was very full, almost chewy...and the drinkability was excellent!

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a dark rich mahogany brown. Medium cream colored head, fades somewhat quick. Nose is strong of sweet figs, raisins, heavy notes of licorice. Mouthfeel is creamy, malty, smooth. Taste is dark bread, sweet, raisins, boozy. A little medicinal for my taste. Lingering sticky finish with waves of rustic fruitiness and bits of maple creeping in. The maple could be dialed up a notch. Couldn’t drink many of these. A good beer for Fall in New England. Well crafted and hearty but not my favorite DDC offering. Worth trying to fully understand the personality of this brewery, but they have better.
